I know https://dongar.tech/ makes a solution but I wanted to make my own for less because I’m cool like that….

While I was waiting for my truck to arrive at the dealer, started doing some research. I wanted to find a dash cam hardwire solution. I found the new 4th GEN trucks are pre-wired with a pigtail to connect the OEM dash cam sold as an option for $500.

I ordered one part from AliExpress and another from Amazon.

I successfully hardwired my Viofo dash cam. Came out super clean.

I think that connector is IGN on only. Dongar said they are working on a parking mode compatible connector.

I bought a VIOFO camera a couple months ago for a different car. It fried itself the moment I tried to charge it. Burned my finger where I was touching the side of the camera and some magic smoke came out. I sent that crap back. Yes a dud, but I didn’t want to waste any more time with it.

Depending on how you wire it. There is an option for always on.

Since I had the pillars off anyway for MESO puddle lights, I ran a 10a fused switched and continuous power up to behind the mirror. Added a 12V-two USB behind the overhead panel.

Currently running an Apple MagSafe window mount and Uniden R7 off one leg of the switched power leg. Dash cam to be on one of the USB dongles.

How in the heck did you take off the roof light console ?! Been trying and it won't come off!

Grab either the front or back and just pull down. Nothing will break as it’s just held by these red clips. It gets easier the more you do it. Don’t be scared. If a clip breaks they are super cheap.
Once you get it dropped the connector is on the headliner on the drivers side.
    You can do it!
    And reply back

Nice! Do you think I can power both my uniden r3 and viofo from this? I don't think the amp draw is very much.

I would run 12v in straight to dash cam and modify my hardwire kit for viofo to have parking mode. Might be a good idea to put a fuse on the radar detector but this power source should already be fused?

The dongar team is very active on the Tacoma4g forum. I recommend checking there. Some suggestions include 2 pig tails (5 pin and 10) one for radar one for dash cam. Then use USB to rj11 from below.
