I ordered a pair of mudflaps from JC Whitney because i broke one of the front stock flaps. So i went to take the broken one off first and removed the screws that go into the inner wheel well. then removed the "pegs" that snapped the mud flap on (what was toyota thinking when they designed these things??).

So now its off, but i realize that the flaps i ordered have screws, and the stock ones had the snap in pegs. And the screws that came with the flap are a couple sizes to small for the hole. And for anyone who has taken there stock flaps off, they know that the snap on pegs are unusuable now.

So my question is, should i get a screw that is big enough to fit into the holes where those pegs were? and if does anyone know the size? Or should i get similar snap-in pegs for the new flaps?

I would go with the snap in pegs, just in case you run across original flaps.
I know auto zone and others sell the pegs, may not be exactly for your truck but will fit.
I know when I removed my fronts (flaps) due to the lift, I went and looked for the begs to fill in the ugly holes.
I know they have some for Chevy,(no smacking please) fit great, but the only way to remove is cut or break them off.
    Been their, done that........
