I've got the Pelfrey bilt front and rear bumpers, which will be installed shortly.
question, I've been told I may want to up my front Struts up to the next notch due tot he added weight. So what do I need to do for that? I have the OME 887's over the bilstein 5100's. I had them built inhouse at wheelers and from what they tell me they put it on the lowest notch when they build them, (even though I told them to put it higher) they said they put it on the lowest notch. I can't even see the notch and I am guessing it's covered by the black boot on top of the shock?
Do I need to completely disassemble the strut to do this? or can I jack the truck up, remove tire, and compress the spring and do that?
    Safety first.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

ok I just watched a video about the adjustment and see it's a snap ring that adjusts the height. so I need a snap ring tool?

Did you get steel or aluminum? Are you adding a winch or no?

I just installed an Pelfreybilt aluminum front with lights and synthetic winch on 887 (with ome struts) and it rides really good. I think the weight total is around 135#

Edit: I used that method to install my coils

Dont bump up the struts with the 887's. Wheelers did it right, your ride will be shitty with the lift springs and the struts at .85. I had 887's and OME struts on my truck when I installed my Pelfreybilt steel bumper and winch with synthetic line. I lost about .5 inch of height and the spring rate was too soft in my opinion. Your best move would be to get a stffer spring rate if you'll be installing a steel bumper and winch.

If you want an adjustable coilover, buy an adjustable coilover. :)

@WormSquirts Steel Bumpers, no winch, Yet.

@RogueTRD I got the Steel and will get a Winch Later when money becomes available.
It's not that I want an adjustable collover, Tyler Pelfrey said I might want to get a stiffer spring as well. But I am going to stay with what I have for now until money comes available. Wheelers said I could take out the 3/8" spacers and put the shock up the next notch.
HOWEVER, you lost .5", did you change yoru springs? or did you stay?
What springs did you get if you changed?

I drive without a Sway bar, how spongy is it going to be after installation of bumpers? Which is why I need to update the suspension.

Also in the rear I have the progressive 3 leaf AAL, Tyler Pelfrey said I may want to go with Dakars eventually.
What do you have? or what did you do after?
    Thanks

Check out my build thread when you get a chance. I've been in the same situation. I ended up buying some Icon coilovers with 700# springs. If I had stayed with my OME lift I would have bought 886's with the small spacer. I also run with no swaybar. Don't get me wrong, the 887's weren't horrible, but they felt a bit over worked with the plate bumper, winch, skids, sliders, etc. I have Dakars in the rear, no issues. They have been great. Settled to about 2.75 inches of lift as advertised.

@RogueTRD I'll defeintely look at your build after dinner.
So you have Dakars in back and you got 2.75" lift? and in front you have Icon coilovers with 700# springs, how much lift from that in front?

I did the toytec progressive 3 leaf AAL for 2" in back, and the Bilsteins 5100's with the OME 887's for 3" in front.
So I guess I can go bigger lift and maybe even get bigger tires!

Wormsquirts, I got that too, as you can see from above, I may have to get the dakars.
Which Dakars did you get? or is there only one set?

Thanks you guys for the info!

I think there's the standard Dakar (that I have) and then they have an aal for it as well which is just another over load and maybe one extra leaf. Not sure though

@sddarkman619 I have my icons set to about 2.5-2.75. I like a little rake.

The Dakars come in 2 configurations. The standard leaf pack and with the DX29L add a leaf. Most guys only run the add a leaf if they are carrying seriously heavy loads.

Damn, I'm looking at the difference in shock length for rears.
    Mine Bilstein 5100's:
    – Collapsed Length (IN): 14.02
    – Extended Length (IN): 22.94
    Icon:
    15.9″ coll.
    26.8″ ext.

I would need to add .5" for these to work for me, so the Dakars and the icons would give me a little extra lift with more travel. Correct?

This is my first build I've ever done myself. Researched and done all the work myself which isn't much. My old Tacoma had an ALL and a spacer lift in front. so this time my 2015 Tacoma I'm doing right. Now that I know what I am doing(sort of).
Now to match up the front.
I guess I know what I want for Christmas. Slightly taller suspension., more clearance and travel.

They have extended length Bilstiens too. You can get the Dakars and the extended Billies.

I guess I need to look at other vendors, I've dealt with wheelers and they are good but don't have everything I'm looking for.
@RogueTRD where did you get your Coils? Are the springs a generic name? or branded?

Wheelers has extended Bilstiens, my buddy has them on his truck. :) I live 30 min from them. @YotaDan help this guy out.

These springs won't work with the Bilstiens. You'd have to get the Old Man Emu 886's or some Eibach 650# or better springs.

I'm trying to find the Spring listing page so I can compare springs. Why wouldn't your springs work with Bilsteins? Sorry for all the questions, trying to educate myself and learn.
    Aren't eh 886's a little shorter?
Hear's what I am thinking so far.
Dakars in the back with the 2.75" lift and Bilstein EXT's
Front Bilsteins 5100's EXT and what Springs?
This is to hopefully match the need for AFTER I install the new Pelfreybilt Front and read bumpers. Read bumper is the HC with Tire Mount gate.

Any you know, I really don't know the difference with Shocks either, should I be looking at difference shocks or are these ok?

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/old-man-emu-questions-answers-pictures.258245/

Great thread with tons of suspension info.

My springs are Icon 700# 14" springs for their extended travel coilovers. I think you can swap brands on certain springs coilover to coilover i.e.: King/Icon/Fox etc. I didn't just swap springs I swapped the entire coilover. The 5100's/Old man emu nitro charger shocks aren't compatible with these springs.

Why not just use the ome rear shocks with the Dakar's? Literally made for each other. Likely the same performance as bilstein, and slightly worse than icon.

For the front, I'm pretty sure the bilstein 5100 aren't made to damp a 650#+ spring
