Wondering if possible to install the rear parking sensors in a Tacoma with out them? My truck doesn’t have them and would like to install them and wanted to know if anyone has done that or knows if it’s possible. Thanks in advance!

I don't know about adding the factory sensors, but I did add sensors to my wife's 2011 Highlander. I bought a kit off of eBay and installed it. It works great. I mounted the display on top of the steering column so it's a little bit clunky, but it works and has prevented at least 2 incidents

Serious question, but what do parking sensors do for you that the camera does not? If you are worried about it i'd get the rear camera anytime mod and call it a day.

In my wife's case, it was raining one night and she backed into a black- colored post, which is what prompted me to install the sensors.

I'd like to find cross traffic sensors aftermarket! Idiots coming down the WRONG WAY in a parking lot has reached epidemic proportions! And even if you back out at a crawl, they STILL don't stop and seem to intentionally want to scare the crap out of you!

But can I just get OEM wiring and wire it up?

What did you get - this is the cross traffic sensor or something else?

I'm just guessing, but I would think that it would need to be "activated" via Techstream to communicate with the other systems in the truck, such as displaying information, sounding chimes, etc.

No cross-traffic. It's a basic set of four sensors that warn you of things behind the vehicle when in reverse. The display shows approximate distance, which has proven to be surprisingly accurate, and it shows yellow and red bars as the obstruction gets closer. It also beeps when an obstruction is detected, with the rate of beeping increasing as the obstruction nears.

    Little this. Little that
Yes it is possible. My ‘08 had them installed. I tore them out when I got a plate bumper. Never really used them.

It was a basic kit like this. Simple. Just audible beeps. There are lots that have a small screen with range etc.
