That's odd. Mine came with a lock already installed. Do you mean a fob actuated TG-lock?

Did it a couple weeks ago. Pretty easy if you have the right instructions. Found some instructions on here and was having a hell of a time with nothing matching up. Searched some more and found a different set of instructions then everything went smooth.

Just did with the OEM kit on my 2020. See attached for 2019 - 2020 instructions.
    Easy ~1-2 hour install.

Instructions are great, I wouldn't torque the tailgate bolt to 49lbs, mine didn't like that...

Used maybe 10-15 zip ties under the truck, they give you like 50 of them, excessive.

Did not disconnect battery, did not lift truck.

Didn't have a marker other than black, so I put some blue painters tape to mark the wiring in the tailgate.

Question guys, does installing this lock (override key) meaning can no longer use key? Local shop installed mine and I don’t think I can no longer open tailgate with key.

Or is it because of added hardware it just feels heavy? I get a lot of resistance when turning Key so I don’t want to force / break so I haven’t done full rotation .

Just tried, you can, but I felt like the key was going to break. Very difficult to turn

Yeah key worked on mine too, but a lot of tension. Going to try very hard to never use key.

Wow, looks like a job. I will need to set some time aside and just know it will take me some time. Definitely not a rush job. Thanks for the advice.

I notice in the instruction it said there was a conflict with the BED Lights. Can anyone elaborate on what they mean?

In the thread around #199 he sums it up as everyone thus far (I saw 2017-2020) had zero issues with install. The remainder of the thread is everyone saying install easy, no issues.

If you have your doubts: The actual work of accessing what you need is fairly simple (unscrew panel to access tailgate, pop open passenger side panel). That can probably be done in 10 minutes, no joke. With that being said, you can test by running the cables “outside” the truck and test the lock/unlock on your remote without actually installing the solenoid — to see if it interferes with your bed lights.

My lock is all full of dirt from living on a gravel road and is fairly difficult to turn with the key. With the power lock I no longer have to worry about it.

No issues whatsoever with bed lights. Installed bed lights say before lock no issues at all.

Maybe because you're manually overriding a mechanism that is meant to be actuated electrically?
