I think your missing the point of the spacer. Long runner intakes are better for low rpm tq. The spacer would lengthen the intake runners. Short runner intakes are better for higher rpm hp numbers.

This spacer is more for tq, than for hp's.

    Correct.

That is also one thing that nearly 75%+ of the member here talk about. Low end TQ. So apparently that is what they are most interested in. Upon a second dyno from me, and some from the OP, we should have congruent data.

What I think is funny is that they focus on the HP when torque is what you want.:goingcrazy:

you're missing my point. I was aiming to the fact that, toyota designed their intake to be as effecient as possible as far as gaining hp/tq. if adding a little gap between the intake and the block would help, they obviously would have done it. but they likely tested various intake lengths and the one they came up with worked. Nissan, on the other hand, may have missed this oppertunity.

but then again, the dyno's vairy

Not if it cost them more money, hence engineer vs business.

In this world of modern auto engineers, CAFE standards are king. If, as mentioned, the 1/2" spacer made that big of a difference, Toyota would have used it, or made the runners longer. They spend shit loads of money as it is, designing these engines, whats another couple bucks? After all, more efficiency the better. The stock torque curve is among the flattest out there for a V6 engine. Some V8's dont have the curve of the 1GR. BUT....STILL waiting on a decent dyno comparo. Dont get me wrong, I'd love to see more HP unlocked from the engine. But given the dyno already posted up, it really doesnt look like much to be had. As for the "Gain" at the beginning of the run, Its very rare that you see the dyno curve follow the same lines as the one before it, at the beginning of a run. After the first 500 to 1000 rpm of the run, are when the dyno can accuratly record any gains.

Get real. Toyota is not the be all, end all of automobile engineering. I'm sure Toyota tested various frame's on the 1st gen Tacoma's and went with the one that worked best. Just like Toyota designed the rear leaf springs to hold the advertised weight in the 2nd gen Tacomas without riding on the frame rails. It's been an issue since 05, and there are STILL 2012's rolling off the lot with the same weak 3 leaf spring set up.

There is always a trade off for the manufacture. Cost, emmisions, part availability, will the best part fit, etc. To think that Toyota equipped the Tacoma with the best intake with the perfect runner length, the best exhaust manifolds, the best stereo or anything else is foolish.

Over all I think the Tacoma is a great package, but I think there is room for improvment from the owner.

Leaf spring rates are dictated by the "95%" who buy the vehicle. If they want a truck to ride like a car, guess what they get? Engines and efficiency have to meet governmental regulations, as well as be able to make as much power as they can to apease the consumer.

I hear what your saying. But there is still some power that can be squeezed out of this moter. I'm not expecting huge gains to be had from the spacer, but I do think that a gain can be had.

Chris, are you saying that there are no gains to be had then with the 4.0l? That the 4.0 makes as much power and is as efficient as it can get?

Nope. Just sayin its not as easy as alot of people think. Gone are the days when an intake, and exhaust give 25 to 35 hp. Now, most good exhausts get a net gain of about 5 hp. If that. 15 years ago, a header, full exhaust, and decent intake could give 50 hp, or so. Now, the same mods "might" give 15 to 20, if that. Now that manufactures have the capacity to accurately time the pulses in the intake/exhaust, simple spacers dont have the impact as they once did.

If Toyota is anything like Nissan, why didn't Nissan add the spacer to their VQ motors?

Why didn't Subaru add a phenolic spacer to its motor, like the aftermarket companies do?

Why did Toyota make a lower oil pan on PreRunner and Xrunner that has the sump, in the highest part of the oil pan, is prone to causing bearing oil starvation, retains a half quart of old oil when you drain it and is in a lower section that is away from the sump, and could have been a half inch to one inch thicker to prevent such issues?

I don't know.....They surely noticed that though. I did, and that is why Coupe now makes an oil pan spacer and Oil Pan to alleviate that dumb engineering oversight. :D

Toyota did the same thing with the Scion tC's oil pan as well. Excellent design for rod knock. Lol.

If Toyota doesn't care about it enough, they put what works. Not the best of what works, but what works. Unfortunate as that is.
