I've been following this on/off since the beginning as I have been interested in a manifold spacer for quite some time now. In fact I've looked into producing my own variant of one, specifically out of a thermo-polymer. My reasons for the polymer were not to reduce costs, but to minimize added mass and reduce/insulate intake temps.

However seeing as the majority of the manifold is already plastic along with the significantly higher manufacturing time/costs associated with the polymer, I gave it up. It is much easier, faster and cheaper to machine these out of aluminum - not only in short run production sense, but also in R&D/prototyping. Can you imagine how much it would cost and how long it would take to have to produce new molds/tooling each time a revision is necessary.

You can also machine them from the polymer, but that is not cost effective in a short run either. I guarantee you that NST has looked into producing theirs out of a "plastic" material, but found that billet aluminum is the easiest and most profitable considering their needs and capabilities.

All I wanted to do was inquire as to the progress of OP's development of his own spacer. I don't need anyone to school me on what a manifold spacer does or how it does it. So you might have a little harder time talking down to me. But I'm happy that you guys are so knowledgeable in race engine technology, or that you spent a lot of time googling this shit.

Also, I'm pretty sure I can have these machined out of T6-6061 for under $70 a pop. That's including materials, a couple of prototypes and the CAD work(should any revisions be necessary). All made 100% in the USA!

OP, I look forward to your dyno sheets. Good Luck and don't forget that you'll have to find some way of securing the upper plenum once it's shifted up by the spacer

Now that post is a good post. :)

I like a good debate always. I also like to keep a pleasant demeanor when conversationing/debating. Too many times though, to many people put forth an unecessarily forward disposition. Then in turn it make my responses harder to remain polite.

I apologize for my rather unbecoming disposition.

I dont think anyone has gotten their butts hurt in this thread. Just back and forth banter, discussing weather or not this will work.

Already done, I have a lower stock manifold coming to mate with a head and do some flowbencing, with the rough casting run out in the ports I think the velocities will be off, I.e. too many deflections in the boundary layer. I have a buddy at extrude hone that can fix that and see if I can get better lam and still keep it around .5 mach in the tract

Too funny. I had an 87. No engine issues and 237,000 on original clutch. Also the stock rims were chrome and where in great shape when I finally sold the truck in 2007.

Making the relationship between the Nissan Sentra engine and the Tacoma engine is ridiculous. They're completely different, 4cyl vs. 6cyl, truck vs. a car and different manufacturers. The manifold spacers might work with certain vehicles but if the manufacturer did their homework on the low end of the engine, they might not work on others.

Not to mention, you're a little late to the party. The OP has made a prototype and is dyno testing on the 4.0L engine to prove results (or lack thereof). You can have your $0.02 but these aren't blind claims, they're going to be backed up by dyno results.

Peak HP numbers mean nothing. It's all about the curve of the power. A motor can lose 2 peak HP, but still gain throughout the rest of the curve. Longer runners will give you more torque. Anyone looking for peak HP on a 6 cylinder truck is crazy unless you drive at 5k+ rpm all the time. In my drag racing days, I gladly gave up some high end HP for more low end torque to get my heavy car moving. Always ran faster than the guys with more HP.

I'm not saying this will work - but we should be concerned with torque numbers across the curve, and not peak HP numbers.
