The rubber hose/pipe that goes from the air box to the engine has completely split in to right where it meets the engine. I checked local junk yards but they said if they had one it would more than likely be in the same shape. All that's holding it together right now is duct tape. Any other suggestions what to do beside duct tap or a aftermarket intake?

Would this work? Lots of guys used these to plumb their snorkels but could work for you also.

Or, it's a little ghetto but if you're handy, you could make it out of PVC, not sure where your MAF sensor is on the 1st gen though.

Call your local dealer. Thats where I got mine. It did the same thing.Thay are about $120.00 depending on the dealer. Thare are some OEM toyota parts places on line but after shiping you are at the same amount pluss you have to wait for it to be shipped. Good luck, hope that helps.

yeah I has checked the dealer out but I was hoping I cold come up with something cheaper than that. $120 for just a simple piece of rubber is just about stupid!

I had actually thought about doing it out of PVC but wasn't sure if I could get some of the angle right. I was trying to think of something like a PVC coupling to use where it's split.

PVC would work fine, if you could make it fit. In fact, it'll be stronger than the stock air-piping-intake stuff. I remember, I had an '89 Volvo 740GL, I completely replumbed the intake with PVC. The thing roared like a beast! :)

if I redid it with the PVC would I need to put the air traps back in place and would it change anything if the new pipe wasn't the exact length from the air box to the engine?

Hmmmm. Not sure. I know the air tube is "tuned" and those silencers actually help the performance. If I were you, I would experiment. Your best bet would be to emulate the factory settings.

Do a search under deckplate mod. Chris 4x4 did a write up on how the factory intake tube is tuned becouse of the silencers. He talks about how he dyno tested it. I had removed my factory intake tube and replaced it with the airaid intake tube. It did nothing for HP and MPG. When I did the deckplate mod I went back to the stock set up after reading chrises write up and man I noticed a diferance. Its all about what you wont.

Just posting in here because my truck failed smog since my intake tube is duct taped together too :( California is so stupid sometimes. I was going to replace it eventually, but now I've wasted $20 to have the guy tell me everything passed perfectly....BUT you can't have tape on there.

Still hoping there's options aside from the $120 at the dealer :( damnit CA...

Yeah the p/o of this truck smogged it with the tape on, but it was past the 90 days and I happened to have gone to the most anal smog tech in the state or something.
