I have a TSB rear leaf spring set up and am wondering how a shackle flip would add any improvement to the rear suspension? Based on this I might be interested.

Interested, put myself down but would want to see the product before firm commitment. 6 weeks is a long ways off. Good luck!

Thanks for the interest but I can not base prototype cost and a production run on those wanting to see a finished product. I understand the position, and there will be a handful left when we get to that point. but I'm just a guy in his garage and can't put out several thousand dollars and be sitting on it. I hope you guys understand. If you really do want a set, let me know and I will add you.

Also I'm going to have to put a deadline on this as I have some stuff coming up. I'd really like to get this out there, but if there are not enough on the list by the end of the month, I'm going to have to put this on hold. So I will give it to 4/30/12. Thanks for all the interest and understanding.

    Added you. Thanks.

The two main things gained with the shackle flip are added articulation and smoother ride.

Maybe I'm confused. Your post said you were gauging interest. I'm interested. Now it looks like what you want is a commitment for a group buy. Those are two different things.

As you said you are an unknown guy in your garage. You have a CAD drawing, of an untested suspension component, and your asking me to commit to the product which has an unknown time to be shipped, isn't tested, and has no price?

I totally understand the position your in unfortunately, I think if you want to sell a product your going to have to put yourself out there and assume the liability and risk of the potential for profit. You can get 200 names on a forum list and in the end not one person sending you cash. Coming to market with something new and untested with the expectation that the customer assume the risk is a bit ambitious. I wish you all the luck it appears your product has the potential to really fill a much needed niche and as I said, I'm interested.

Well freekin said and expresses my thoughts in words I didn't have. Maybe what you (OP) ought to do is solicit monetary backers if the cost of R&D is too great for you to bare alone. This is the American entrepreneurial way. I too am still interested in a purchase if you ever bring it to market.

Look guys, I understand where you stand. Let me clear some things up. It has been outlined in the first post since day one how I would do this. If there are enough people to say "Yes I'm ready to buy", vs. "I might buy one some day", then I will get this going. I'm not collecting orders, and I'm not collecting money from anyone. I will not do either until a prototype is done and tested.

It's not that I can't swing the $. It's that I'm not going to put out $4k to not even break half even. That's not the American entrepreneurial way. I don't have a laser or a brake so it doesn't make sense to do anything less than 20 at a time. If I can barely fill half that list and say no one flakes. That leaves me with 50% and $ out of my pocket that I'm just sitting on hoping that someone will buy. I can build them one at a time, but they're going to cost you, the end user, $800. That will go nowhere real quick. As I said in the OP, the price would be sub $200. If you're not comfortable with up to that point, then this probably isn't for you. I'm not looking to really gain anything from this. I'm just trying to fill a spot and give back to the Tacoma community. I can't even use this thing myself.

All that said, I think this is where this ends up every time someone has a design they want to bring out. There's never quite enough people stepping up to justify the initial setup. At this point, there are 7 people that are ready to buy. This is out of at least 3,000 combined views on the forums. Not exactly the percentage that makes you go "Oh, lets get this to market!!" Like I said, I'll let this run to the end of the month, then this design too will probably go away to never be seen again. Unfortunately, it is what it is, and we'll see what happens over the next handful of days.
