Uh a recall is not a criminal indictment smart guy. The failure in ignition switches was proven to be much more negligent and dangerous than the stupid floor mat BS ever was....

Are you one of those fools that ACTUALLY believes there was a problem with runaway cars?? Do you ACTUALLY believe modern hydraulic braking systems are too weak to stop a 134hp Prius motor?? Or that a floormat sliding around is as dangerous as as your engine randomly shutting off and ignition locking up??

The gas pedal in my old M3 was the style that came from the floor up and easily trapped by my generic all-weather floor mats. Actually happened to me me one time so what did I do? I moved the fucking floor mat instead of suing BMW lol.

Average age of a toyota driver is like 60. That means millions of inattentive old people driving around mixing up their pedals.

Or if the floor mats really were a problem then tell me why Corollas (who weren't part of the recall yet had the biggest issues with floor mats) haven't had all the runaway problems?? Its the most sold car in the world, surely with millions on the road if they were dangerous we would've notice a habit of runaway corollas by now... but we don't.

Whole thing was political bullshit and if you can't see that then you don't know politics very well. You think it was a coincidence Toyota was pursued by the Feds right after the Feds bailed out its #1 competitor?? How naive :)

"The US Justice Department announced on Wednesday that Toyota will pay a $1.2 billion fine in exchange for a criminal fraud charge being “deferred” for three years and ultimately dropped. The settlement stems from a protracted cover-up by Toyota of safety problems arising from driver-side floor mats and accelerator systems installed in numerous models."

US Attorney General Eric Holder told journalists: “Rather than promptly disclosing and correcting safety issues about which they were aware, Toyota made misleading public statements to consumers and gave inaccurate facts to members of Congress.”

"no-one will face any criminal charges for actions that have resulted in deaths, injuries and trauma for hundreds of people."

"Toyota conducted its own investigation the same year and discovered that “potentially problematic … design features made gas pedal entrapment ‘likely’.” Toyota did not inform the NHTSA. Instead, it assured the regulator that no recalls were necessary. In Europe, Toyota moved to fix the problem, but took no such steps in the US."

"It labelled Toyota’s recall notice as “inaccurate and misleading.” The actual defect in the vehicles was not the floor mat, but the design of the accelerator pedal. The dangers were exacerbated by the absence of any obvious means for drivers under duress to override a stuck accelerator. There was no brake override system to cut engine power if both the accelerator and brake were depressed."

"It admitted that as well as the dangers associated with the floor mats, “a rare set of conditions” could exist in which accelerator pedals could become slow to return or stuck in a depressed position. The seriousness of the defect was downplayed in Toyota’s explanations to the NHTSA, however, prompting one of its employees to tell the regulator: “Someone will go to jail if lies are repeatedly told. I can’t support this.”

"The recall was eventually extended to vehicles sold in Europe and Asia. Numerous allegations were raised that the source of the problem lay in the drive-by-wire, electronic throttle system. Toyota continues to deny these allegations."

"In 2013, Toyota paid out $1.6 billion to settle hundreds of civil claims over the acceleration defects. It also paid some $66 million in fines to the NHTSA. It still faces large numbers of civil actions. None of the executives responsible for ignoring complaints over safety will face criminal sanction, however, as a result of the Obama administration’s decision."

Toyota is a faceless corporation that doesn't care if any fan boy on here dies tomorrow driving their truck. They will have their best lawyers on a plane ready to defend them and claim no wrongdoing.

Boggles my mind that you fanboys stick up for Toyota like this.

Wouldn't want to have a civil discussion about different kinds of trucks on a truck forum

ISIS seems to favour Toyota too

I have just posted facts and pointed out your hypocrisy. You're the one who resorted to name calling, so actually you should grow up. Go out and enjoy your truck and lighten up.

Both makers are at fault, but if your going by sheer body count, GM is running away with it. Toyota paid a record fine. It will be interesting to see if Get a Mechanic pays a similar amount or if the government is willing to cut them a deal.

The GMC Canyon looks pretty nice but it is still a GM product! Also toyota has issues.... Frame rust..... The 4Runner doesn't seem to have the frame issues the tacoma has.

Its not fanyboyism its called common fucking sense... So lets get this straight, is it a floor mat issue or a throttle issue?? Because neither of them have ever been recreated, NASA and NHSA couldn't even find a theoretical explanation for throttle theory and anyone whos ever tried to press the brakes and gas at the same time can tell you the engine isn't powerful enough to override the brakes.... Go ahead do try it yourself let me know how it goes.... The funny thing is you know better you're just pretending to be stupid, if you're honestly afraid of your Toyota Corolla uncontrollably driving itself and not even your brakes can stop it then... you're a fucking idiot.

So you can't even decide what the real issue is, do you really think floor mats were the problem?? Explain why Corollas never got fixed yet we don't have runaway corollas.... Is the throttle the problem?? Explain why it was never fixed and yet the unintended acceleration just went away... (it actually never went away just the media coverage). Or if it really was just simple floor mats then why were only USDM Corollas effected even though their Mexican counterpart is built exactly the same?? Why are we not seeing thousands of reports of runaway corollas in Mexico?? After all the Mexican models were never recalled for either "problem" so why don't we see runaway Toyotas all over mexico?

And you quote Eric fucking Holder LOL, as if that POS has any authority at all to talk about automotive engineering, there goes the little credibility you had at all....

That's what I'm afraid of, many idiots simply stepping on the wrong damn pedal, then proceed to blame the vehicle for their own user-error, plus the fact that we're sharing the roads with these idiots.

At least I feel safer driving a badass Toyota tank.

I always found it funny listening to these people reporting that the harder they pressed the brake the faster they went. Uhhh you were pressing the gas not the brake.
