Problem found. Bad yoke ordering a custom greasable driveshaft. The yoke did not have a way to be greased on this RC drive shaft.

Hey TW, it’s hard to hear this intermittent noise in the video but best I could get. Put a OME suspension on and after the alignment my truck seems to randomly make noise in 4th, 5th or with clutch pressed in when I’m going over 60mph. It does not do this if there is tension such as accelerator pressed only when going down hill or foot is off the gas.

Wheel bearings were changed a couple months ago. The noise also happens with and without the dif drop kit so I took it off.

    Thanks for ideas.

Are you getting any kind of good vibrations?

If so throw it into 4wd and see if they go away.

No vibration at all. I don’t drive over 60 mph in 4 H so I do not know if it would make that noise.

Have not done that but maybe I’ll give it a go but I didn’t think the front drive shaft would turn unless it’s in 4WD

Did you use the carrier bearing drop from ome? I had a hum at or around 50mph but would instantly go away when lifted off throttle. Removed it and everything is fine now

RC didn’t require that. The noise goes away under tension. When I let off the gas peddle. When I open the back slider the noise is really bad. Dealership said the drive shaft and u joints were fine?

I had what I think is a very similar symptom - for me it occurred at 45-50 mph. It only happened when letting off the gas - would go away when I pressed the pedal and accelerated even slightly.

I had my frame replaced in July, also leaf springs. I actually had the lift in the rear dropped - it was really jacked up when I bought the truck. When I got my truck back, the noise was gone. The clutch seemed to operate more smoothly, too, when taking off in first from a stop.

In my relative ignorance of these matters, I figure it had something to do with the driveline angle. But that's just a SWAG. Did you change the lift a lot? I believe some people who have had a similar issue have installed some sort of shim to fix it. Again, I am not really all that knowledgable about this - just relaying what I've read in the forum here...

Did you have your pinion angle shimmed? I know having misaligned ujoints will cause a vid but they can also put stress on the pinion bearing causing it to hum.

I have an intermittent hum at higher gears when decelerating and not turing accel due to center support bearing or hanger bearing, worth checking out

These are good ideas hopefully I can figure it out soon. I think I’ll have another shop look at the angles.

Updated sound. According to the phone AO I used my driveline angle is 6 degrees. I’m gonna throw a couple feed bags on the front and measure it with the weight of a winch. Then look at putting in shims.

Have you checked the heat shields around the exhaust and cats?

Yes I checked them. One was rusted pretty bad so I put a new clamp on it. That sounds gone but it’s not the sound that’s going on. Ow!

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
put a gopro under your truck. reproduce the noise. move the camera, reproduce the noise... rinse repeat until you found the source. I did this trying to find where a rock was rattling around. it was actually a stuck branch that was tapping the floor pan by the exhaust shield.

    Bump.

3 mechanics say it’s nothing. Me and one mechanic say it’s the drive shaft angle causing noise at the rear dif from my OME lift. Question is what shims to use. I have 887 up front with an ARB bumper but no winch yet. That phone ap has my drive shaft angle at 6 percent instead of 4 prior to lift sure those aren’t the real numbers but same ap and phone. So should I do the 2 degree shims by doing the shims will I cause more damage to the gears vs just leaving it as is?
