So I went to Best Buy today looking to replace my 16gb Nano (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technology/36717-ipod-nano-damage.html), & came across the 16gb iPod touch. Only $100 more. I see it has really cool features, most of which I don't need. But what intrigued me was the wifi feature.

I don't have a laptop & never used wifi. Just curious on how well the feature works on the iPod Touch.

    Any feedback?

The 16gbs is good enough.. i mean when are you going to listen to 120 gigs of music when you drive? but the iPod Touch is cool. The downloadable applications can keep you occupied for hours when you're waiting for something. The wifi is cool also. Just connect to the nearest hotspot or network and you are set!

The max for the touch is 32GB. I think your thinking of the iPod.

    The 16GB Touch is $300, 32GB $400.

Yea, I had a 16gb Nano. More than enough space for music & pics. That touch I saw today was really slick.

How much space does a 2 hour movie take up?

The gadgets of the touch got old to me quick. When it comes down to it, it's about the music and podcasts to me. No 16gigs is not enough, you don't want to have to sit at a computer every few days and update your traveling library, just take it all with you. My older Mp3 player got ignored because I couldn't get myself to sit at a computer for a couple of hours and change the thing out.

But most importantly - the touch's battery life is PATHETIC! It will not last through a normal days use with my son and he's in school where he can't even use it. I find it on his desk allot with a dead battery because keeping that thing charged is a hassle, yes I need to invest in a wall charger, but that's just more $ I'm not spending right now.

    Good points.

The specs say the 2nd gen batterylife is 32 hrs for music & general, 6 hours for video.

The only way you could get any where near 32 hours for music is load a playlist start play, turn off the screen and NEVER touch it for the next 32 hours. Kinda defeats the premise behind the name touch doesn't it? 6 hours for video? I don't think so there either. I'd say through normal use 4-5 hours is about right.

My 80gig classic returns about 16-20 hours of normal use.

But to each his own, cool screen and gadgets OR memory space and battery life.

Really, I wish they would combine these features, I would even be willing to live with more mass for it. Apple has the engineering team, I bet they could put this in a Touch with 2x or even 2.5x the thickness, and that would be good with me.

    Probably cost prohibitive though...

I am typing on a 32 g touch right now, I think the touch is the coolest iPod to date. Plenty of room for my library, and the wifi is as fast... TW loads super fast. I have the new 2nd gen the battery is great... No issues

I've got an iPhone 3G and love it. Its essentially the touch with phone capability and after using it I wouldnt buy anything else. The touch is really slick IMO. I have no need for huge HDDs as I dont have that much music and I really like the touch screen and wifi. Plus, there are some really cool apps and games you can put on the touch.

Depends what you want to use it for. I have an 8 GB and for me it is plenty (no movies/no pics). Pretty neat features. It works fine in the vehicle and on the go, but for exercise it stinks. Between the sweaty fingers and my aliens thumbs (for some reason the Itouch doesn't respond to my thumbs) its hard to use in the gym. I had to buy a Timex Ironman that has the capability to control the ipod so I could use it to workout.

The Wifi is OK but it loses its appeal after a few times of use. I carry my laptop everywhere I go, so I just use that if I need to. Some neat apps you can add to it.

I have an 8gb iPhone and I love it. 8gb is enough for videos and music. I also have an 8gb iPod Touch that's still sitting in its box up in the room. They're great products.
