Ironman Lift

Use an open ended wrench...17mm? Cant remember. And vice grips on top of the threads, not on the actual threads but above the threaded portion there is a flat portion you can grab with vice grips

 

So the shocks and springs dont come assembled im guessing and your attempting the no spring compressor method to disassemble the stock coilover assembly?

 

The rear is alot easier than the front. I was in the same boat a few months ago. I didnt have much experience with suspensions but i decided to tackle a full OME kit with dakars by myself. The front took me 3 times as long as the rear, i did UCAs also though. Although i left the stock shackle bushing in, and pressed OEM bushings into my dakars.

 

is this all because you don't have a coil spring compressor?

 

You really don't want to use home coil suppressors on these. They are way to beefy

 

I used some cheap compressors on my 885s (590lbs) and probably longer than the ironman coils, but i do agree, it was pretty sketchy and i needed to use 24" woodworking clamps as well as the spring compressors to get the coil compressed enough. It would have been worth it to have them pre assembled or bring them to a shop.

 

Now time for taller tires!

 

What size? I need to get my hands on some 255/85/16 or 265/75/16. My wheel well doesn't like the 265/70s.

 

Do those new, bigger tires scrape at all?? It looks awesome with this lift, even with the smaller tires lol

 

There won't be any rub at all unless you go to the 255/85 or 285/??. You don't need to trim anything. I had 275/70/17 I think on my old truck.

Seems like you can get a great deal on this lit. Have you all ordered the nitro gas or foam cell shocks? Does anyone know the difference between them? Are there different coils for a double cab?

 

Wow, i still cant get over how amazing this kit looks, i just may have to do this down the road... Could you fill me in alittle more on the rear leaf packs? Are the rear leafs part of the whole ironman kit or are they purchased separately? Please let me know as much info, specs, price, of all the stuff on this install if you don't mind, i really love this build, just awesome!

I got mine from trdparts4u.com.
It's complete, with rear leaves, front coils, all 4 shocks, bushings, u-bolts, carrier bearing drop for the rear driveshaft.
$800 delivered.

 

That's awseome! Thanks so much! does the carrier bearing drop eliminate the vibrations from the increased driveshaft angle??

 

That is it's stated purpose.
Work being what it is for me now, I won't get to the install til March most likely.

 

That sucks. Any reason, or just no garage? I am installing a new set of coils this weekend on mine. I think one was improperly installed so it bent it.

 

Plenty of reasons:
as I said, work is busy right now.
Day job, plus, freelancing several basketball games a week (tv crew) plus band jobs, plus life.
I have a big ass shop, just no time.
