My 15 Blue Ribbon is pealing on rear driver's door. Dealer told me to go pound sand because it's out of warranty. I'm the original owner and it's been hand washed and waxed regularly since I bought it. I guess Toyota thinks it's acceptable for paint to literally fall off of an expensive truck after 5 years. It has definitely made me think twice about buying another one when the time comes. Paint1.jpg Paint2.jpg

These are pics from last year, the spot on the edge of the window is much worse now, it's 4-5 inches long.

I am seriously hoping for a recall. I have 6 spots where the paint just flakes off when I look at it lol IMG_20201116_163037280_HDR.jpg

That's actually quite interesting. Last time I checked, the factory primer was black, not white / grey. (But I could be wrong.) If so, I'd wonder if the truck was repaired before it was delivered. (That kind of stuff happens more often than you think.)

I have a white 2004 and the paint is almost excellent, the only flaking is around the gas door. This is really bad business by Toyota

While I don’t disagree. I find it interesting some trucks have issues while others don’t. My 2011 has been fine.

I like to blame the EPA for requiring water based paints.

2013 Spruce Mica and no real complaints. I have a couple small chips and spots I need to touch up but nothing like bubbling or clear coat problems.

My 07 Taco has lost it's clear coat too. $4,000 to repaint entire truck. a Wrap won't stick to bad paint, tried it on the hood and it bubbled up, then the paint came off with the wrap...

I have a Barcelona Red 17 Tacoma that is in the early stages of the paint going bad over the passenger door.
I keep the truck waxed and clean but noticed its not smooth anymore there and showing signs of being discolored.
Sounds like Toyota has some paint issues that need to be addressed.
They'll just sluff it off like they did with my wife's struts leaking on her 13 Sienna. While under warranty the leak was nothing but a seep which is perfectly normal they said. That seep became a leak as soon as the warranty expired and now needed replaced. We have bought new Toyotas since 1989. I'm not sure my garage will know how to act with the new Mazda CX5 we are looking at now.

I bought my 2012 TRD Sport in the Pyrite Mica color on Halloween (2020) and the roof and hood looked like crap and the clear coat was gone and the paint was looking bad.......truck was always in So CA (Orange County)......I had the roof and hood painted (along with touching up the rear bumper and right rear fender flare......cost me $1,200 cash.......it is what it is.......the rest looks good but I did have it "ceramic coated".......don't know if that helps are just a gimmick......

The truck came with the SNUGTOP shell and I wasn't crazy about it at first but now I LOVE it!!....I'm a contractor and I can fill up the bed and lock it and not worry about it.....it's watertight, lockable with the original truck remote and I use the rack on occasion....it even has the "windoor" on the drivers side. Not sure if it's reinforced (I doubt it) but I did add the Rago bed stiffeners to help protect the bed......I am now a shell guy cuz it makes so much sense over just a bed cover for me.....I guess I lucked out when I bought it because it cost the guy almost $2,500 and came with the truck......

I've had quotes from $500 on the cheap end to $1,200 from reputable shops for my roof. Tempted to try fixing it myself, or just rhino liner it. It has 180k on the clock.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on it. If it’s anything like the leaf spring recall they’ll tell you tough luck since you got it done yourself. I replaced my broken leafs before there was a recall and then submitted receipts but they didn’t reimburse or do anything for me. They just tell me it needs the leaf spring recall every time I bring it in.

I'm the latest member in the club that no one wants to be in, the super white peeling club. My paint around the windows on both front doors is peeling, my hood and tops of the fenders are flat, and my roof feels like 320 grit sand paper, and the paint on my hood looks like its wearing through just above the headlights. I've been to the dealer body shop and I've called corporate, so far no one gives a shit. I've already paid $800 for one of my super white Tacoma's to get the effected areas painted. I own 3 Toyotas right now and I've owned 7 since 2006, I'm thoroughly disgusted! This should never happen! My truck is a 2014, but in only has 37,00 miles on it.

My experience: Local dealers won't do anything except check your VIN and say no.

Basically call Toyota, talk to a rep that will file documentation of the issue and hopefully if enough of us do it there will be an extension to the Tacoma. Do not get pissed at the first dumb dumb you talk to, ask for someone to discuss the issue more in depth with you.
