I never bashed on Tacoma reliability, if you read my entire post. I simply said the stuff that bothered me. Mostly engine power and shifting. Mileage can get a pass in my book if it had more power.

Thanks for the insightful reply. If I do something like shiftpro, how is that viewed from the warranty aspect? Would it void my trans warranty?

Why not just buy a manual and shift it yourself?

Always amusing to read product reviews from non-owners, much less, people that have never even driven one. Test drives, sure, they may tell you a peek. But remember the ECU learns your driving habits over time and adjustments are made. And other "nuances" may just be getting used to a new truck. For me, since day 1, I was perfectly fine with my 3.5L A/T. Zero complaints. Gets me to my destinations and with decent MPG. Carried me and the fam in comfort and never left me stranded. Couldn't ask for more.

I drive the 15 from Murrieta to Mira Mesa daily. Traffic is 80 mph in the left lane. The Toyota is sort of struggling to do that. In the 2002, 80 mph isn't a problem. Depending on if it's loaded or not. It doesn't have a lift or big tires so that certainly helps.

I wish I could, but I can't drive manual anymore. I have problems with my left knee. I've heard good things about the manual though, it's hard to track down at a dealership.

Like I said, bullshit. Mines not my daily commuter but 50 miles to work and back on the 91 or 60. My Taco does fine when I cruise at 80+. Your rental must have had issues or something cause I'm not the only one on this thread that said power is good. No struggling here.

I tried it with ECT power and it was better. But without that button pressed, it wasn't easy. Maybe I'm asking for too much from a modern truck. The '17 is a lot heavier than the 2002

I call bullshit, my 04 is not happy with anything over 70 for a long period of time. Gas mileage is also in the dirt.

The 16 purrs along at about 1800 rpms at 70. If it decides to toggle between 5th and 6th I kick it over to S5 and it holds gear just fine.

Did you try S mode mode in your test drives or learn what it's used for?

Ditto that. Our speed limits here are 70-80MPH. No problems getting up to that speed and maintaining. If it's struggling, there is something wrong with the truck.

My 01 DC I had definitely took longer to speed and more effort to maintain.

I think a lot of people want too much out of a truck. Look at all the idiots that drive the SoCal freeways 85-100 in a old Corolla or Civic. Those cars should not be going that fast! Like we've all said, no issues with power coming from people that really own one.

Agreed, I have driven cross country from DC-GA, DC-NY, and DC-CO an 1800 mile trip on I-70 No issues with speed. Out here Colorado speeds are 75 on the interstate and I have no issues cruising at 80. I put 15,000 miles on my taco in the first 4 months of ownership....no issues

My 01 4 door does 80-85 mph daily on level road, sometimes 300 miles a day

On high grades it screams to keep at 60mph when all 18 wheelers pass me and laugh at me

    2.7L gimpomatic

I will get a wrangler truck
    If roof comes off
    And it’s 4 door

It will be first American product I buy
I know it’s low quality historically
    And unreliable

But I want to try it out for a year

Bought a new one for less than $15K so didn't expect much but so far so good. 1.4L Turbo with MT. Traded in a 2016 JKU and left dealership with Renegade and a $14K check. Gets 34 mpg and you need to use 91+ octane gas but I always buy 93 anyway. Room for dogs and other stuff. Great car in my opinion. Bought a new TRD Sport when we traded in our other Rubicon.

It might do it but I'm sure it doesn't do it easily.

My 04 will do 80-85mph but it's a struggle to do it all day. It's much better at 65-70.

I would do the OVtune over the shift sense. If you read on that thread, plenty of owners have taken it in for service with the tune and he dealer doesn’t notice. As for speed, mine does 80 uphills on the interstate with the cruise set no problem. The only reason I drive slower is because it saves on fuel. It does downshift to pull the hills but by no means is it screaming to do so. I think once I get the tune it’ll be close to perfect because it fixes the shifting and gives you the extra torque it needs to pull hills easier

Will the scrambler come with a composite bed or will Jeep make you buy your own?

That's fair if you test drove one but you realize based on your answer to the original question if you owned one it's a fair assumption right? Seems like a relevant tidbit of information.

Anyways I'm sorry you don't like it. A ton of other people do. Preferences amirite
