If MSRP is $36,000 is it fair for both parties if the buyer says he want that as the out the door price (that's including taxes, registration, and any other fee plus GAP insurance, plus with 0% interest)? Or can I squeeze in a few more hundred?

    Thanks

    It depends.

    1. www.truecar.com - check the bell curve nationally, check the bell curve in various zip codes/states you are willing to buy from.

    2. https://www.carbuyingtips.com/download/offer.xls - make sure you understand your offer. If you are under 4% ish dealer profit, you are doing really well. Notice that Tax and Title are on top of the final number in that sheet.

Best deals I have heard of around here with no trade are roughly $3K-ish off MSRP, plus Tax and Title, no other fees. That's about 0.5% dealer profit, for context.

Make it easy and give them a check for $36,000.00 for an out the door price. Work your financing somewhere else first if you've got the means and credit history.

you want to squeeze more money into the deal? Paying more is usually bad

Also, this means nothing without your location

Are you buying the truck without a trade in? If not, then you are missing a huge part of the equation. Dealers love to distract you by whining about the low amount of profit on the new vehicle. On average they make more money off trade ins that new cars because people don't know how to value them. I had a dealer offer me a great deal off of list on a 2015 that according to my calculations including kickbacks made him around $300. On the other hand he offered me only 13K for my trade in (2008 prerunner with under 50K miles). I looked at the sales manager said "you are going to put $800-1000 into fixing a couple of scratches, list it for 18K and sell it for 17K, making $4,000 off the trade in deal. Don't BS me.' He came up to 15K on the trade in value. I am not the type to try to put the screws to the dealer...they need to make money too, and I was OK with them making a few thousand on the combination of the two transactions. MOST people go in completely uninformed on their trade in value and the dealer ends up making a killing on the trades.

By the way, I was wrong, he listed it for $19K.

Are you happy with the deal? Will the dealership go for it? If they will accept the deal and you are happy, sign the papers.

There is no way they are going to pay your sales tax, registration, gap, 0% interest, and any other fees at 36,000, if that is the true MSRP

    no way
    not in California
not in Sacramento where country sales tax is 8.5%

I would assume they are lying to you about the MSRP if they are offering you 36,000 out the door

So you're in CA, want 3600 off MSRP and want 0% interest?? I would say good luck with that.
