I think I have attached a picture, but not sure.

Since we have already done math, how about some science. Will a magnet stick to aluminum?

These days instead of drilling holes to pull dents, they tack weld screws to dents and pull them that way.

You are correct, it does not stick to aluminum, but did to the Jeep hood. Must be steel then.

I think the dealer's estimater is either really stupid or trying to really screw me.

That's a great looking hood, but $750 without paint and another $150 for shipping. My wife does not care enough to pay for a wicked cool hood.

Just because we don't know where a number ends (pi) doesn't make it imaginary. Imaginary numbers are the evil beasts used to make a negative number by squaring (as said above).

Take it to a body shop, dealers suck, ask around and you'll hear who can do a good job and who can't.

By the way imaginary numbers first appear in high school algebra, no need to take calculus, there you just find values for something that isn't there but should be.

To add to the overall completeness of the thread...

Imaginary numbers were invented to enable people to do math (like in the electrical world) involving the square roots of negative numbers... I know, that was already stated. It seems extraordinary that numbers can be "imaginary", but they do work.

Numbers which keep going on and on and on... like "pi" - are termed irrational numbers. This means that they cannot be expressed as a fraction.

That said... none of this has anything to do with removing the dent from the hood of a Jeep. Sorry I can't help you there.

As stated above, magnets don't stick to aluminum, therefore your hood is infact steel. Aluminum can be welded, btw.

Now if the body shop is drilling holes to pull out your dent, you should run for the hills, but i don't think that this is the issue the shop manager was referring too. If access permits, a dent will be hammer and dollied out.

    CClassFender1.jpg

Without access, a stud gun or electric slide hammer is used. I have only used these types of tools that work with steel; they may or may not exist for aluminum.

Severe damage may require a plate to be welded onto the panel.

Post a pic of your dent so we can see how bad the damage is.

Now I have it in the forum gallery, so if this fails, it is there.

The beautiful thing is that it is right on the rolled edge of the hood!

I have a $500 deductable, so I might as well pay for it and not take a beating from my insurance company.
