I recently went out to Portland for a family vacation. Flew out there, and rented a '19 Wrangler 4D. All I could do the whole week was compare it to my Tacoma. And boy... I never thought I would miss my Tacoma that much, or be envious of the other Tacoma's I saw driving around.

    No.

I saw a gif yesterday where a wrangler was crawling and it tipped on its drivers side The body mounts snapped and the chassis separated, AND ACCELERATED AWAY FROM THE JEEP.
It was hilarious, but wrangler = NOPE.

No, it's not wrong to compare the two. They're very different vehicles.

No, I don't think it's wrong to compare the two since they fiercely compete in the same segment. Competition is healthy for the consumer market.

I cross-shopped a Wrangler and an Outback before purchasing my Tacoma. The only off-roading I do is cruising the beach in Saint Augustine.

Wranglers are fun vehicles and the ability to take the top and doors off is a plus. My wife thought it was "cute", but actually preferred the Tacoma which was shocking to me.

Reasons I didn't purchase the Wrangler:
    • build quality - smelled like glue (hardtop) and poor reputation
    • cost - base Sport cost the same as my TRD OR DCSB
    • highway driveability - just didn't feel as good as the Tacoma

I looked at an 18 Wrangler when buying my Tacoma. I went with the Tacoma for a few reasons.

More comfortable. Has a bed. Cheaper (Comparable priced Wrangler had almost no features). And I think the Tacoma looks better in my opinion.

Yea, the rental wrangler I had was a hard top, with the ability to remove the roof above the driver and passenger. Which we did, and it was really nice. That was basically the only thing I liked about the wrangler. It handled like shit in the sand...

Curious what it is exactly about the Wrangler that attracts so many Tacoma buyers. Same thing with Subaru... there's something about these vehicles that makes them common to cross shop even though they're all so different.

I also looked at the Wrangler, decided against it for Jeeps build quality problems, and the fact that this is my daily driver.

You see quite a few Wranglers on St Aug beach. I didn't like the wrangler because of the limited amount of space. There is no room to bring what you need to the beach. Good thing you didn't get the outback because you would probably miss out on quite a few beach days when the sand is soft.

I'm on the beach almost every weekend. Usually hit the A street ramp.
