I was in the same boat, unfortunately for myself I needed a vehicle ASAP so waiting weeks or months for a mt access cab wasn’t a option. Ended up with a auto and man do I wish I was able to wait. But I love my access cab.

Well, we all know that sticks are going away. Not if, just when.

I'm looking at the delivery option because I purely hate TSA and hotels. And the idea of driving a brand new truck 600 miles at highway speeds wrecks every convention I know of when it comes to breaking in a vehicle.

I know. I know. New vehicles don't need to be broken in. Thanks in advance for mentioning that, but I'm going to do it my way.

Since we can't get regular cabs anymore access cab is the next best option.

Did OP say what area they're in?

I'd imagine the hard part is probably wanting a manual where it looks like a lot of manufacturers are moving away from them.

In terms of handling I don't think the DCLB is that bad. But my previous short bed crew cab truck had a pretty big turning radius and I think is only about a foot difference then the Tacoma DCLB. So wasn't that much of an adjustment for me. The turning radius was one of the reasons why I wanted a Tacoma. I think the Colorado's turning radius might be similar to the Tacoma.

The issue in length does kind of matter. Where my previous truck could fit in some parking spots just perfectly. But the Tacoma DCLB is just long enough where it doesn't fit in some parallel parking spots and also doesn't fit entirely in parking spots in parking garages.

I think you learn to adjust and accommodate some things. In the previous forum I was on, people would comment on how easy that truck was to drive compared to their full sized or super duty trucks whenever people would post complaining about the turning radius.

Although sometimes I do think that it would be nice to be able to make a U turn in one shot on a two lane road. I'd think you'd be able to do that with a Tacoma DCSB or Access cab?

I drove a manual for 26 years. Went auto this time (3rd gen Access cab), and no regrets. The Sport mode slap-shifter thing satisfies the occasional desire for a manual.

Gonna get some crap for this but personally the access cab in the 3rd gen looks odd to me. Some say the dcsb looks odd, I like it. Depending on the color the Dclb looks odd to me. The first gen looks awesome as well as the second. 3rd not so much

Had a member on the east coast complain to me earlier about the same issue. Irrc he lived in SC or near there. I found an AC MT in a neighboring state, but not in the color he wanted. Later I found the AC he wanted but in OK. Seems new AC MTs were not very popular in the east?

ACs do seem very popular in Northern CA, usually 9-12 AC MT Sports in the inventory search on average this year.

In SoCal it's the opposite for AC MT? Rarely is there one in inventory. Plenty of AC AT however, presently showing 32 in that config.

I don't think the Access Cab is dead, just not as popular. They seem very popular with contractors especially in the SR. I see a few 3rd Gen ACs in fleet use by major corporations too.

Toyota manufactures the ACs in Texas I read, seems they might have less issues than the DCs maybe?

I like my 2019 AC MT so far, looks badass with lots of compliments received. Rare bird indeed.

I talked to the dealer in STL, but the truck I was interested in was damaged by hail. Ain't that the shits?

What with the new model year coming on I'm gonna cross my fingers and fidget for a couple of months. But if Toyota deletes either the MT or the access cab for 2020 I'm screwed! I signed up for updates on Toyota's site, so at some point I'll find out.

Toyota needs to offer more MT configurations and they would sell more AC’s.
