Is the Tacoma TRD Pro worth the extra $10k over a TRD Off-Road, ZR2 or Ranger?

I'm aware that even mentioning the ZR2 on tacoworld is probably means for being stoned, but that truck is damn sexy.

I will probably not off road much. Mainly a mall crawler to modify and throw dirtbikes in on the weekends.

I'm pretty much buying for looks, reliability, and high resale value.

What is your guys thoughts, is the TRD Pro worth the extra $10k in those categories?

Or should I save a few grand and go for an OR, used ZR2 or the new Ranger?

They all are nice looking small trucks. However, of the bunch, the tacoma is the only one with proven resale value.

Hard to put an exact price on style. I vote no. Upgrade the looks of an off-road for a lesser total cost.

It's worth more to me over a zR2 with the V6, maybe not the diesel though. I'd say they're about even there. As for the TRDOR, that really is up to you.

    Oh yeah, I understand 100%.

My first choice was a TRD OR or a sport and modding it to my liking. I'm just thinking I might be better off in a Pro since it already has all the mods or buying a used ZR2 which has a ton of good mods but virtually no aftermarket.

So I guess I answered my own question.

Do I want to modify? Yes.
Will I modify a Pro? No.

They all have problems but in talks of realizability Chevy would be at the bottom of the list on top of that the interior feels and looks extremely cheap or as many other have put it “milk jug plastic”. I personally drove a zr2 that was a rental and let me tell you once I got back into my Tacoma I felt like I was driving a S series Mercedes in general terms (interior feel, comfort, drive train, etc). The pro honestly is probably not worth the 10k extra get a OR and upgrade to Kings and Dakar’s leaf’s and you’ll that would probably run you around 2500-3k you’ll have a superior suspension to the pro which really is the difference between the OR and pro besides the minor exterior cosmetic differences such as scoop’d hood and darker appearance tail lights and head lights. Can’t really speak on ranger since it hasent even hit the market that I’m aware of

No. The TRD pro is the worst thing toyota has done for these trucks by making the “top” model look like a raptor but failed miserably. It’s clearly trying to be a raptor, but it’s nothing more than overpriced shocks (the aftermarket market is much better and cheaper) and stickers.

Get a TRD Offroad with leather, be a man and do the mods yourself.

Save that extra money and buy new ADJUSTABLE shocks, wheels and tires, flash the ECU/TCU and make fun of TRDBRO owners.

Well, nothing says you can't mod a Pro. I just finished my compressor install & the ARB front locker goes in in a couple weeks. Then there's sliders, bed rack, etc. Theres plenty to mod!

Let's put it this way, GM is in the mid-size game just because. Their mid-size trucks aren't their bread and butter. Toyota invented the mid-size category, the Tacoma is super important to their lineup. They can't just throw it out there and say "ok, we have a mid-size truck, now what do we want to build?" That's what GM does and how they view the market. Make no mistake, they make their money off of Tahoe's and full size trucks.

What’s nicer about them than the TRDOR? Worried about scratching the big emblem on the side? Or damaging your shift knob?

They're like a collectors item imo. It's probably not the way to look at a truck... But I mean $45k

The price tag doesn’t make it a collectors item. You don’t get a plate with “XX of XXX made”. There’s no special color Toyota developed just for that truck. There’s no engine changes.

A collectors item vehicle is something completely different.

Nobody looks at this as a collectors item:

Where you getting a used ZR2?

Anyway, if you are buying for looks, just get an SR5 or Sport and modify it with the 10 grand+ saved over a Pro and put a nice lift, tires and wheels and still have money in the bank... No need to get one with a locker since you just want cosmetics.
