Is the Tacoma TRD Pro worth the extra $10k over a TRD Off-Road, ZR2 or Ranger?

I bought the Pro vs OR for the leather heated seats, grill, TRD skid, headlights, wheels, and suspension.
Had I bought an OR I would have paid $5k less. I bought at MSRP, a rarity in SoCal. Lowest price I got for the exact OR trim level I wanted was $5k less.
Will be selling my wheels & tires, skid, carpet floor mats and eventually my suspension. I can make a fair assumption those items will bring me at least $2,500. So for $2,500 more I get....
    Rigid Fogs
    Heated Leather Seats
    Badass headlight assembly
Pro Grille ( even PRO haters buy them )

    Expensive, yes.
But I get to enjoy the Fox setup for a couple years until warranty expires and I can actually afford front bumper and winch and rear with swingout.
At that point I’ll upgrade and do a real lift.

Did I mention resale? In SoCal new 2017s are still selling at MSRP and it’s not uncommon to see markups of $10k on a 2018.

I say go with what you are comfortable paying. This forum will definitely lead you to spend money, PRO or OR.

It depends on how much Ford changes from the global version, but if it's not a great deal then there's already an ARB catalog of parts to outfit a Ranger. Potentially there could be plenty of options when the truck actually goes on sale here. But the domestic stuff is probably going take more time.

To the O.P's question, personally I don't think new any of them new are worth the money. I bought a used TRD OR, which was because my requirement for a stick shift and that's what I eventually found that met my price/miles/condition requirements (there's no shortage of overpriced and worn out Tacomas).

But new, you can save yourself a lot of money bolting Air Lockers and FOX suspension on a SR5 and end up with an equally capable truck. But flying under the radar is more my style so bedside stickers to me are unnecessarily ugly.

Maybe for a year or so but then Toyota released it to the other models later, happened with Quicksand for the Tundra and 4Runner Pro, with Inferno, with Cement... Calvary Blue is the only unique Tacoma Pro color right now but I don't see it sticking around long.

Limited production doesn't always translate into meaning it's worth more.

I’m sure a lot of people were pissed to see it as a standard color option on the 2018 models !

I have a TX Pro and have essentially "down-modded" it back to a TRD OR, so take it from me, just get a TRD OR if you want the locker and be done with it. Not worth the huge mark up for some random mods.

Also modding turns vehicles into a huge can of worms and if you want it to ride great with no extra noises or extra maintenance, don't mod it. Just my opinion.

i bet! I would have too if they advertised it as a PRO only color and then
months later released it to the masses.

    You’re missing what I’m saying:

Toyota did not develop a color that is only for the TRD pro Tacoma.

But I’m glad you went the right route

We all know the 2019 or 2020 will have blue!

No, not it if you have even the smallest mechanical skills. Save the money for better suspension and do it yourself.

Reading this thread, it occurs to me that a real "unique" Tacoma was the 2016/2017 SR access cab with the 5 speed MT.

Wonder if those will ever be "sought after"?
