I have only seen one picture of a 3rd gen with a OEM bug deflector/ hood protector. I am wanting to get one as soon as they are avail. Now that the mud guards are slowly making their debut, I was hoping these would also

Any reason to opted to not get the tow package from the factory? Not trying to be a smart-ass, just curious since you may have a very legitimate reason. Just figure if someone's going to spend the loot for a TRD OR, and extra $650 for the tow package would seem like a no brainer. Although I don't tow often, the tow package for me was essential. Figured for what you get it's one of the better add-ons as far as value is concerned from he factory.

I didnt Opt for anything. I just didnt think to check it. All my other trucks came with it. Plus when I got mine, there was not alot to choose from. The dang dealer was so busy telling me about Entune and the damn Qi charger and push button start ( all useless features) in light of the tow hitch. Sure enough it is not on my dealer window sticker either. No tow package. Now, I have to buy one.

Sorry to add insult to injury, but you're missing more than just the hitch receiver. You've got a smaller alternator and lack the transmission cooler. But you said you were just hauling a lawn mower so you probably dont even need that stuff. I got so caught up in my search for a 2016 I could've made the same mistake. Feel for ya dude.

And I went in the complete opposite direction! All I cared about was the tow package! Didn't want to hear about the JBL or Tech package, etc. I just wanted a TRD Sport with tow package and middle of the road appointments. Could have cared less about Crawl Control, and all the tech goodies! I don't even town often, but learned my lesson with my Subaru that when you do need to tow it's better to be prepared/over-prepared than just be at the limit of the vehicle. Thats why I shelled out for the larger alternator, trans and oil cooler, hitch, etc. I figured if I'm going to own a truck, it might as well be able to tow things I want tow and not have to struggle (within reason, of course).

Dang that sucks, crappy dealer just looking to make a sale...sorry man! Too bad they don't just make the Tow package standard on SR5 and above...on a side note though I put one of those wireless charging chips in my Galaxy S5 and it actually works pretty well lol.

If it makes you feel any better I went without the tow package as well. I wanted it, especially knowing what it added, but it was no tow or wait an extra month+... I got impatient :p

I tow absolutely nothing though, so just adding a receiver will be fine. Tow package, as mentioned, is well worth the money with all it adds

I'm thinking the same. If I wanted a truck for real towing I would have gotten an f-350. For small lawn equipment I'm thinking I don't really need that larger alternator and tranny cooler. Seems overkill for a smaller truck.

Exactly, for what you need it for I wouldn't sweat it at all. Just enjoy your new toy and learn from the mistake

Overkill until that one time you need it. I find it funny how people will shell out several grand for necessary tech junk and gadgets that most probably won't even use to it's full potential, but then will do their darnedest to rationalize not spending an extra $650 on a tow package on a truck. Yes, the Tacoma isn't designed to tow huge loads, but seriously, $650 more for a nice hitch, pre-wired for two different style harnesses, larger alternator, oil and transmission cooler. I guess I'm in the minority in this thread, but I thought the tow package was a no brainer, and mentioned before, probably one of the best add-on values. I mean heck, a decent Tonneau cover is going to run you between $600-$800! The tow package just adds convenience and less stress on the vehicle.

Sb that is all well and good but my question is what do I do about it now? Sure it would be a no brained if I had a choice. I'd pay 650 right now for it if I could. What I said in the previous posts was that mine didn't come with it. I thought it was standard on all TRD packages. Now that I need one and have to put one on the larger alternator and cooler probably will be more then 650 so it probably won't be worth it since I don't pull much weight... Why am I having to explain this. If you are telling me that I can go to me dealer and pay 650 to get the tow package, I'll do it tomorrow. But if you are saying I should have specified this when buying one, then "no kidding I should have done that" but I didn't.. So where do I go from here is why I am asking.

I'm not telling you to do anything. Just lesson learned I guess. We all make dumb mistakes. I got the stupid factory Tonneau cover and predator tube steps and now know there are cheaper and nicer aftermarket options. Live and learn I guess!

I know I know, but seriously guys. I am asking what would you do now... Lesson definitely learned for the future, but I need a method of towing. Do i get aftermarket or OEM. I dont want to make another mistake off this initial one.

Definitely go aftermarket, otherwise you'll most likely get taken to the cleaners if you buy an OEM hitch. You'll get a much better hitch for your money of you go aftermarket. I went with a Torklift Eco Hitch for my Subaru Outback and that hitch was burly! Too bad they don't make an aftermarket hitch for the Tacoma yet though.

You were the one who derailed your own thread and asked about the tow hitch!
