I'm a carpenter by trade and am considering a cap and some lumber racks. I found this cap set up:

    https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/are-tacoma-bed-cap/

that has racks rated for 550 lbs. But the racks aren't super useful for lumber and I'd like to be able to get a little more weight up there, just to be sure. I found this picture:

of a Rack-it that is cap compatible and wanted to know if Rack-it's aluminum version (good for 1000 lbs.) has the same compatibility option. Their website only has images of the aluminum version that rests directly on the sides of the bed.

    Bonus questions:

Is there a spacer for sealing underneath the cap when you mount it in conjunction with the racks, like in the picture above?

I'd also take people's two cents on really needing that much weight capacity. I could potentially go the route of the "A.R.E. CX HD" (see above link) with a "Prime Design Alurack" which would be a more preferable / cleaner look.

    Thanks!

Did you ever figure anything out with this? I’ve been looking for a similar setup with my cap. I’ve had my eyes on the Rack it 3000 series for the cap compatibility. Hesitant to pull the trigger without seeing some positive feedback.

    According to this page: https://rackitinc.com/pages/3000-series-camper-shell-steel-or-aluminum-pipe-rack
you can do exactly as I was describing.

Since you've reminded me of this post I'll add that my thinking has changed a little bit on what I want. I'm leaning towards getting an alu-cab: https://www.alu-cab.com/us/product/extra-cab-explorer-canopy/ . Partially because I love the look and partially because I think it's more durable (and it can support a lot of weight directly on top like the CXHD). I would toss on a prime designs alu-rack (or something similar): https://www.primedesign.net/products/alurack/

The rack-it racks are better for keeping long lengths and extension ladders stable but for what I do, the 8 feet of the aluminum-rack is fine 90% of the time. I'm not often getting 16' lengths where I want to center the load more towards the front of the truck, plus I think it's a cleaner look.
