Is there a sensor for being in Park to allow the key to be removed?

Hi all - my 1995 SR5 has been having a recent issue. Sometimes I park, turn off the truck (and put the it in Park) but cannot turn the key completely to the position that usually allows you to remove the key.
(It isn't a key or a key ignition switch issue, however, I have a new factory key & have had the locksmith inspect the ignition switch. And not a wheel lock issue)
My work-around is to start it up, drive an inch, park again & try it all over. If it still doesn't come out, I start up, back up, & try again. Sometimes this doesn't happen at all, & sometimes it takes me 10 times going back & forth. So I think there's a gizmo that senses when its in park. Any ideas?

So far as I know the key can only be removed in Park.

Thanks DCSBFTMFW. Perhaps I wasn't clear. I've never wanted or tried to remove the key in any gear except Park. The key simply doesn't turn all the way off to be removed once I am in Park.

    10-4.

I'd think it's an ignition cylinder thing, but I'm not terribly familiar with what communicates Park to the ECU and (assumedly) allows the cylinder to return to position and let the key be removed.

I went thru the same crapola a few weeks back. There are some write ups on this.....

Mine was that the bushings that held the gearshift in place had worn down not letting the pin know about it being in park. The only way I was able to release the key was to disconnect the battery, and that opened another can of worms with the RS3200.

yes there is a "sensor" so to speak. it's usually built into the neutral safety switch. if it's not sensing it's in park, it won't release your key. but also, if the actuator isn't properly turning or actuating, it may just be a bushing between the lever and the switch that is the issue.
