If it's a real Limited with correct seats and a sunroof i'd say yes for the right person

It likely is still that high. KBB and NADA don't mean shit on these trucks, but in that price range I rather have a Limited because the seats were a lot better. The Limited 1st gen was a true unicorn

I'm on the fence right now. I have an aging 04 prerunner rwd with a tad under 300k miles. I also have a 19 TRD OR tech/premium 4x4. I
wanna get rid of my first gen for this one, but am afraid my 19 will be neglected.

Funny thing is, I do find myself driving my 01 more often than my 19, since it's so much simpler.

Sell the 3rd gen and get the new 1st gen and keep the old 1st gen.

I sold my 04 base SR5 extra cab for $8900 with 270k plus a year ago. These aren't like 3rd gens which won't hold their value nearly as well.

If anyone wants a real mind fuck try searching for a low mile 2013-2015 RC4WD 2nd gen. A lot of those are selling for nearly what they sold for new

Crazy money for that...my 04 trd off road limited was 19k with 20k miles... it didn’t have a sunroof or power bolster but color match flares.

A Lot of factors will play into a 3rd gen not "holding its value" like a 2003 Tacoma.

It's going to hold it's value better than one it's competing against. Me buying another 1st gen nope not a chance. Good trucks, but already had the experience.

I do sometimes think about selling my 2018 OR and getting a 2013-2015 RC4WD, but the prices are just a huge nope for low mile stock ones

Insurance doesn't care about KBB. They actually have to find similar vehicles for sale to compare price. And the KBB is around 13k without going through options and stuff.

That isn't how it works. If there were only a handful of 1st gens for sale, and everyone decided to sell them for 100K, the truck doesn't become worth 100k. Insurance companies already have a replacement price on your vehicle, regardless of what you paid for it.

They aren't classic cars insured with classic car insurance. I would be stunned if any insurance company would value that truck at anywhere near 20K if totaled.

Unless they have a stated-value policy (insurance where you specifically are paying a premium on a 20K truck), that truck isn't going to be deemed worth 20k.

That is how it works, partially anyway. A random hypothetical isn't proof that it isn't. Insurance valuation is generally "secret" but you can, and should appeal with market prices if you aren't happy with the valuation you get on a totaled car. I'm not sure they would get exactly 20k, but they definitely wouldn't get 5k from insurance, which is what I was replying too.
