Is Toyota full of B.S ?

I called a dealership and asked them about re-flashing the truck. They said they have never heard of this? They said the only thing they can reset in the truck has to do with the alarm codes. Has anyone re-flashed their ecu?

 

The re-flashing of the Ecu is for Error Codes and maybe Alarm Codes... Is it still under warranty? Go to another dealership if their going to be like that or go to Auto Zone

 

Why would Toyota as a whole be "BSing" you just because one dealer did?

 

No-Toyota is not. One guy at one shop MIGHT be.
PS-You don't flash an ECU for an error code- you clear the error code with the appropriate reader.

Reflashing the ECU is to update/upgrade the software following a large modification (like FI or Cam/timing changes). It changes how the engine operates.


OP-Why are you looking to reflash the ECU for your ride??

There's also a factory re-flash after installing the TRD super charger. But that's the only one I've heard of, and is probably pointless without the SC. Not sure what it changes exactly, but it's needed apparently.

It's adjusts the Air-Fuel Ratio settings (that's the big one) if I remember correctly and I'm sure it does a few other things...

Do you have the SC or were you looking for the re-flash for something else??

Flashing the computer can be a part of a TSB for performance changes, companies are always making software upgrades, cant just ask for one for free though, complaint has to match availible tsb's

There is a reflash for the 05-07 Tacos for a intermittant no start condition, other than that there are not any reflashes available. TSB EG011-07

 

I only know of two ECU flashes out there. One is for a no-start condition on some of the 05-06 1GR. the other is for the TRD S/C.

It adjusts the timing, AFR, raises the rev limiter up to 5750rpms, plus some other unknown changes.

 

I had Vance and Hines exhust put on my Harley Fat Boy and the had to reflash the CPU (central processing unit). You would have to be doing somethin major to reflash.
