I read about it awhile back. The article had said that for Toyota's full electrical throttle by wire without a cable back up two sensors were used in a redundancy format so I would assume they were the same. The ECM would get a signal from each sensor and if one differed from the other the throttle would be cut back and limited.

What's really confusing is how many different fixes there are for close to the same problem on so many different models. Isn't it a bit strange that darn near the entire Toyota product line has accelerator problems and it doesn't seem to matter who made the pedal?

It has been mathematically proven that software of sufficient complexity cannot be guaranteed to be bug-free. No matter how much testing or thought goes into it, it cannot be deemed to have no bugs, it cannot be guaranteed to always work as designed, and never do anything it's not supposed to.

It is difficult at best to have software of any sophistication always perform as expected. Thus the redundant sensors and failsafe methods. Which may not work as expected, either.
