The horses are for rock crawling and northeast 'wheeling. It gets hot in the desert -- I use camels for competition. :p

Thanks. It's wrapping up this week. I have the front suspension on but need to have custom shock hoops fabricated to fit the secondary bypass shocks. Those will be tied together into an engine cage.

The rear of the cage is also being modified to incorporate upper hoops for the rear shocks coming through the bed. If all goes well it'll be done Thursday so I can do some low-speed rock-crawler testing this weekend to look for binding and interference. That'll give me time to fix any issues before leaving for the Primm race. :)

The gee-whiz stuff is going in this week too. Fresh-air breather kit to feed filtered air directly into the helmets, in-truck intercom to communicate between driver and navigator, race radio, etc.

FYI for those interested, suspension stuff aside, the bare minimum required for all classes is:

. Minimum 6-point rollcage with all joints gusseted
    . 5-point harnesses
. Approved racing fuel cell with internal bladder and baffling (no fuel tanks)
. Rear dust light tied to ignition. Vehicle must not be capable of moving without the light on.
    . Driveshaft hoop
. Front and rear bumpers capable of sustaining impact. (bump = horn)
    . Window nets
. Basic in-truck stuff: food and water for long-course races, flares, jack, first-aid kit, fire extinguishers, and all the other stuff that everyone should carry with them anyway.

Wheel travel, track width, wheelbase, fenders, engine modifications, tire size, etc. are dependent on specific class rules.

September 12th is the Primm 300. Gotta build up to the Baja 500 and/or 1000. I broke my suspension in half testing at Barstow last year and don't want a repeat in an actual race.

Also have to save up cash. Entrant's fee for the 1000 was around $3400 last time I checked, and that doesn't include cost of the vehicle itself, transportation, fuel, lodging, or anything else.

Rules state that windows are down if not completely removed. Between wind noise, engine noise, other vehicles, earplugs, AND helmets, there's no hearing anybody in that cab.
