I don't need 4x4, more gas, and if your truck ever gets damaged it costs more to repair due to all the 4x4 components. And I hate off road especially raised trucks with those big ugly mud tires.

You do realize the 4wd and 2wd version of each engine size in these trucks get the same MPG right? Only way to get more than a couple MPG more is to get the i4 instead of the V6....

I would have thought that with more components causing friction on the driveshaft, that the 4x4 would get worse mileage. But yeah, If I had the extra cash for a 4x4, I would have gotten one.

Yeah, I would've thought so too. But the numbers from Toyota, and people on here and TN basically confirm it. The numbers range from 15 to low 20's for people with either 2wd or 4wd from what I've seen based on how people drive, but you don't see anything above 21-22ish until people start talking i4's.... Seems like I've seen some of those claim 24, maybe more.

That's really interesting, thanks for the info piercedtiger! :)

It all depends on how you drive. High RPM's = Low mileage.

Geography plays a big role in the decision to buy a 4x4 or a 4x2. My dad has a GMC Sierra 1/2 ton 4x4 and lives in Stockton CA. He said if he decided to stay in Cali he would not get another 4x4.

4X2. The fact that I don't have money for 4X4 at the time(still broke as hell :D) One time I runned into a small ditch, I couldn't get out.But it got me from point A to point B that's all it matter...I guess :D

I currently have a '98 PreRunner, but will be upgrading to a new DC LB 4x4 in the near future. I'd rather have it and not need it than the other way around. If Toyota offered the DC long bed in the TRD OffRoad with the locker, I'd probably be fine with another PreRunner. Unfortunately, I am limmited to the Sport. Technically (with auto-LSD open diff), it's still a "4x2", but with one wheel grabbing on each axle. At least that's what I've gathered from researching the web and this site.

my truck is a prerunner, I have had both, I found that for the money & what I do on a regular baises, I can get away with a prerunner as long as it as a locking rear dif.
