Both look cool. I wouldnt be able to go with a mp5 unless it had a 16" barrel and a fixed stock (I live in Nazi MD)

Looks like a .22 upper runs from $350 up.

    http://www.midwayusa.com/browse/Bro...ystring=649***20766***8807***11619***11625***

You can buy a 22 then modify it for more than that.

It seems to be that if you have the extra cash, and want an AR, this is a good option (building an AR with a 22 upper)

(figure $225 for a complete lower receiver, $100 for the bolt, $100 for stock)

I have a Colt AR-15/22 and love it. I had the S&W 15-22 before I bought this but it had too many issues. (in its defense it was the 1st generation, I hear now the newer ones are much better)

but the other day I came across these and I am seriously considering it:

If you are still looking for a Mk 22 I think I saw one at j & G guns the other day. Their site is jgsales.com

reliability is just one piece of my puzzle. I want it to look cool and be something that is accurate too. I dont like the look of the SD model MP5s that have the mock silencer built on. Not my thing.

I just paid for the mp5 last night @ turners. $519 OTD. It look's fun, and I've read a lot of good reviews about it. I like that it feels solid....it's not covered in plastic like the Colt, the M&P, mossberg, etc..

I got my guy doing some research for me on what he can get me otd and comparing the price difference between a couple of models. If it is only $50 to $100 difference to get a dedicated upper AR platform, might as well go that direction. We will see what he comes back with in a few days from his distributors.

    Are the .22 uppers regulated?

what are the advantages and disadvantages to having a dedicated upper? (besides that of being able to switch out calibers, because I can just buy a new gun that can do the same thing and then the pro is that I have two guns, one for each hand) Are they reliable, have a different bolt, charging handle, than the higher caliber uppers etc?

what do you mean regulated? they still fall under the same rules as every other gun. 16" barrel length is a must unless your going NFA.

well if you have a .22 AR and a 5.56 AR then you will develope muscule memory and wont have to adjust going from one to the other.

the dedicated upper will be more accurate than using one of the drop in .22 kits for the 5.56. the .22 barrels are 1/16 twist and 5.56 barrels are 1/7-1/9 twist.

I guess I mean cash and carry rather than regulated. Are they as dependable as some of the .22 rifles? Do they use a different charging handle, etc. My brother said he thought that the dedicated uppers were not as reliable, and didnt have functioning bolt catches (i figure that depends on Mfg) but i think he was thinking of a conversion kit and not a dedicated upper.

everything that I have read about cmmg has been positive. If I was looking for a .22 AR platform I would either go with a dedicated cmmg upper or get the S&W mp15.
