    Hi all!

I am reaching out due to some concerns I've had since the frame was replaced due to rust and the related recall. The frame was fully replaced about 18 months ago. However, everything that was not the frame itself (bolts, attachments, mounts, straps, etc...) were transferred to the new frame. All of those parts were extremely rusted and were put back on.

A couple weeks ago, I noticed a sound coming from the backend of my car, anytime I turned the wheel to the left. Turned out to be that one of the gas tank straps had broken, and the hanging portion of the strap was rubbing against moving parts. My gas tank was hanging about 8 inches and being supported by the front strap only.

This is where things irk me. My brother and I went to replace the strap, and I noticed at first that the part linking to the frame appeared to be bent over, as though, once attached to the new frame, it was already broken, and someone bent it over to 'cover it up'. Then, the final kick in the gut was the condition the strap was in once we pulled the cover. It was flexible as cloth and crumbling entirely. I have to imagine that, if the strap is in this condition 18 months after being attached, it was already in horrible condition at attachment.

So, I believe that they attached a broken strap, already rusted through, to hold my gas tank up. How would you approach Toyota regarding the reuse of unsafe materials when replacing the frame? I've attached pictures of the issues mentioned

I'd start by speaking with service manager of the dealer who replaced the frame.

The service manager I just spoke with about mine (hopefully to be done) said they get a kit with a bunch of new parts to use. Maybe that’s a new process or maybe someone else kept yours.

This is when you guys that have these post frame replacement issues take lots of pic of the things done wrong and blast the dealers on social media and copy the gm so he knows his dealership is crap and so does everyone else. Sucks y’all have to deal with that crap.

No issues at all. Frame was replaced in January of this year. My dealer replaced both gas tank straps as they were as rusted as yours. No charge to me.

I was at the dealership every day at 3 . I brought the tech a coffee and we talked about the truck during his break. He talked me into doing a few repairs that I had to pay for. Spark plug replacement and an upper control arm. I do all my own maintenance on my truck but his input and knowledge were invaluable. I had a good experience with my dealer

At least you got a new frame. Some of us got the big “FU” from Toyota, saying that mine is too old and the rust campaign has expired. I would love to have your problems. My Tacoma is going to be a total loss when I have to get rid of it. I’m done buying Toyotas.
