This is why I'm getting out of IT. It's all to common, and IT gets blamed when things go to shit when IT isn't given enough resources to do the job.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Document the denials, print, bring to meetings. Hang other staff out! Hahah.

Try 2.5 IT staff for about 1800 end devices (not to include infrastructure like servers, switches, APs, etc.) in 6 buildings spread over an area of about 200 sq miles. It's fun.

Then they just end up outsourcing, off-shoring, or going to a shared services provider who promise the moon then underdeliver to all hell but it doesn't matter since they got rid of 95%-100% of in-house IT. Then 5-7 years later they bring it back after getting screwed badly, then they hire local and those poor bastards bust ass to fix everything that was undermaintained, not documented, and poorly implemented during the outsourcing period.

Then about 1-2 years after that they cut funding to IT because doing it right costs too much (in the minds of the business), and they start leaning back towards outsourcing which they'll do in 5-7 years after that. I've seen it at a few companies I used to work for already.

I'm going to make a cyborg army after I finish my nursing degree which I'm in school for now, though am on summer break.

Could be like my company (an MSP) expand customer base and product lines while shrinking service department...

Seems like a good ratio to me. We have 10 people in server ops for 10k servers and 200k+ users. 1200 or so of those are hosts.

Oh I absolutely adore Windows, and OSX is better than sex. Why? Because of Bill Gates and Steve Job's crappy ass software people pay me good money to keep their shit working. What would I do for a living without them?

I've had it on my desktop for a while at home and like it. I installed it on my work laptop a few months ago and like it there too. It's everything that 8 should have been.

    "working"

I tend to avoid mediocrity, hence: Linux.

See, large icons and it won't let me "Group by"

    It used to, though.

It's mostly the image. I take the time to build bulletproof images, so my desktops and laptops are very solid. Other things come into play, too, like well thought out GPOs, not giving users local admin rights, etc. Virtually none of my time is spent on true Windows issues.

I see a lot of people buy desktops and just join the OEM Windows install to the domain. Don't understand why. It's a piece of cake to build a "thin" image, add the drivers to WDS, and use that for everything.

I have friends who work for an MSP. For smaller clients, I can see where it makes sense and is probably more cost effective. For anything beyond that, there is no way it works out better, especially in an environment where you are constantly expanding technology, improving and refreshing existing, etc.
