My work desktop is an M93p tiny. It's been good. Doesn't take up much space, performance is plenty for what I need it for, and it supports three monitors.

I use to have a M93p tiny as my desktop at work but I am not always in the office so I swapped it for the T460s laptop. It's much more convenient for traveling. Also I have a dock at my office so I can use multiple monitors. :)

We used to be a IBM shop back when they were IBM, but since we've moved to HP. Had a batch of HP desktops that had some bad capacitors. Was a PITA. The laptops we use are all the Elitebook editions. They're OK, and haven't had an enormous amount of issues with them. Getting ready to swap out the 8560p, 8460p, 9470p, 9480p with either 840 g3 or 850 g3. Probably will see more of the 850's rolled out. Since there like the 10key on them. Going to jump ship to w10 as well. Someone made the decision to use Edge as the default browser. Not my 1st choice,

I bought an Asus laptop from Best Buy last year. Ended up swapping it for a ThinkPad. The employees said no one ever returns ThinkPads.

Yeah, they are and have always been solid machines. Rarely got one that failed.

My company has these, they're good laptops, not sure about the 850 G3, we have the G1 and it's cabbage.

I wanna say they are on same platform, just larger screen and 10key. Could be wrong

We did find that the 840 g3's do have different cams based on production date. With drivers supplied by HP, Skype self view does not work. Has to do with a change MS did on w10. We're working with HP and MS to resolve. Probably will have updated drivers soon..

yeah the 850 G1 doesn't have the 10-Key, same display size. Most of the issues are bad batteries, mobos, and trackpads that I've seen.
    The 9470/80s are really good.

We order 14" laptops. About half of the people complained about 15" laptops being too big and bulky and some others complain about not having a normal number pad on the 14".

They refuse to understand that we can't logistically take requests and order some of each. Besides lowering the quantity and raising the price as a result, we'd then have yet another model to deal with.

I hear ya there. With our size, there's just no other option. The Corp level is currently supporting 4 model sizes. 12, 14, 15 and 17. 14 & 15 will be our business unit mainstream and we're even defining who will get what. The other two will be for business need exception only.

If we were a smaller company, I sure wouldn't want to support more than two models..

14" laptops always seemed the perfect size to me. Not too big, not too small.

FWIW I never use the number pad on my cheapo 15.6" laptop at home.

Work at a financial institutions, so number pads very desired... I like it too since very proficient at it. Once you get the hang of it, it's hard to go without. My current 15 doesn't have it (dam Hp) so I definitely miss it. My next one will have it 4sure

I don't miss not having a number pad, but I'm not crunching numbers all day. If I really needed one, I could always get a USB number pad.

We have the 14" and 15.6" models for this reason... If we are replacing a 15.6" laptop you are getting a 15.6" replacement and same goes with the 14" models. Now if it is a net-new laptop then you will be asked what size you prefer and then provided that model (as long as it's approved by Budget).

We don't order in a volume where we could justify it. Looked at it once and the price went up pretty significantly because it dropped the volume of each model.

In reality, 90% of people are just thrilled to get a new laptop. The 10% that whine are the types to complain about everything.

Icon/TC Mid travel, TRD S/C, PNP Greddy EMU, 625cc injectors, 2.2 pulley, Hayden tranny cooler, AEM wideband, TRD boost gauge.
I bought an older ThinkPad from Ebay and put an SSD in it-- does everything I need. I wish I remember the model and specs, but it was under $200 (not including SSD). Running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, got the fingerprint sensor working, runs VMs with VMware Workstation, does daily driving just fine, I spin up a WinXP to tune the Greddy EMU, a Win10 VM to use Vsphere for my ESXi box- just an ugly little beater laptop that doesn't disappoint- oh and because its enterprise, the docking station was cheap on Ebay and now use it for a desktop like workstation when at home.

I have an i7 haswell, SSD, 32gig of RAM desktop build that just collects dust, its a shame...

I think the only complaint I have about mine, is that the audio isn't loud enough sometimes. I run Debian on mine. I also have a Win7 VM on it. Mine came with a 256GB SSD. It has 8GB of RAM, but I might buy a 16GB module soon.

My desktop is a i7-4790k, also with an SSD and 32GB of RAM. For the last year, it's mostly been my file server.

Well a great start to 2017 in the IT world.

I spent all of yesterday fixing replication between a root Active Directory domain and a child domain in the same forest. The two domains hadn't replicated successfully since March of 2015.

Nothing like starting of the New Year with some LIGHT and EASY work.

I had a desktop start bombarding a DHCP server with requests today. Tracked it down with WireShark, but not before I spent a great deal of time trying to figure out why my DHCP server was responding to fewer than half of my clients.

Don't know what exactly is up with that client. I'll have to see in the morning whether it was malware or some odd hardware fault.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Speaking of DHCP stupidity, I had 3 Amped Wireless (not my pick, client insists on his home-gamer grade stuff for his office) access points decide that my static IP configs weren't great enough so they'd just bypass that for DHCP client instead, and then ignore my reservations I'd setup in DHCP.

I've literally never had the pleasure of seeing a client pick up 4 IP addresses, each pingable, each with the SAME MAC address, none of which are the IP I want it to have. :frusty:

    Hello 2017.
