    Hello IT People.

So I get the following message when trying to convert pdfs.

Files does not begin with '%PDF-'
    C:\Users....

    I've tried editing registry
Couple other things the software manufacturer suggested. Nothing has worked.

Has anyone ever run into this issue?
    What was your fix?

    Thank you.

Trying to convert through encompass, using adobe.

Everything I've found online as a possible fix won't work.

Adobe Acrobat Pro? I have it on my desktop and it’ll convert an unsigned PDF back to a Word doc with no issues.

What all did they install in your cloud? I think some features may be missing.

Nothing was installed. I've tried running a repair on Adobe and that was not successful.

Affects multiple users on different sessions and the problem happens in the cloud and on local machine.

I want to say it's the software we are using, but the multiple calls to the developer, they won't acknowledge the problem.

I like this, except that what I create is a blend: basic tech specifications, a comment on the web address, connecting lines between the app server to the database to the database server.
I guess I'm going with System Topology as my go-to for now.

Does anyone have a lead on a good course/book for Apache Tomcat for the near-beginner, with specific focus on SSL/SSO? I'm becoming the go-to guy at work, even though I'm not a web guy by any means. I just need to implement some apps, and therefore I must become my own best resource apparently.

    Yeah.
I always look for an O'Reilly book first. They do have one on Tomcat, not sure if it covers SSL/SSO though.

Users of Samsung Galaxy phones beware - there is an active scareware attack going on now. Perps are installing keyloggers and taking screenshots of the phones, then emailing the victim's work email addresses threatening the release of a humiliating video unless they pay a 1/2 bitcoin ransom. There's no proof yet that the bad actor was able to actually activate the camera, but they can screen shot and compromise any accounts accessed from the phone. It appears the threat vector is through adult web sites accessed via the default Samsung browser.

    So...

Make sure you :jerkoff: using Firefox or Chrome, Galaxy users, and put black tape over your cameras when you do.

I got a similar scareware attack on one of my burner email accounts. (that is left over from usenet days. Who's old enough to even remember that?) They claimed to have a webcam video of me :jerkoff: and only want $1,900 in bitcoin to "keep our little secret." Thing is I don't have a web cam. (well I do, but its turned off in the bios.) And, because I am so awesome when I :jerkoff: they should pay me $1,900 for the rights to distribute the video.

In other news I'm related to Nigerian royalty and have a rich dead uncle with no next of kin and everybody wants to give me millions of dollars.

anyone have any issues with the Windows server 2016 patch that was deployed in July? I think we are having a few lingering issues, but not entirely sure.

I did however find this on a reddit thread regarding the July patch for Windows server 2016. This is pretty good.

    REAL MEN OF GEEEEEEENIUS!

We salute you, Mr Over-eager Microsoft Patch Deployer. You push every patch, no matter how innocuous, the moment it drops from Microsoft. With no regard for your systems or users, you sit back and watch while WSUS blasts updates all over your network like Bukakke porn. It’s everywhere!! Do you care if it breaks production? Of course you do. Do you care enough to patch dev/test first? Of course not. Aint nobody got time for that. So here’s to you, breaker of everything and reports it on /r/sysadmin so the rest of us don’t have to. Mr Over-eager Microsoft Patch Deployer.
