A lot of good points made here.

I just wanted some reassurance and advice from people with experience in this field. Which, I got a lot of very good feedback. I just need to look into course offerings and things like that. I'll link you guys up with the course offerings for this area.

IT SUCKS! I have given it 20 years of my life and for what?? 2 bankrupt companies, and a layoff.

OK. It does not suck. The bankruptcies and layoffs DO suck, but man, I LOVE TECHNOLOGY! Zach, don't be afraid to start at the bottom. You are in Intel Land, and they LOVE doing internships. Check their website. about half of the positions are internships.

It IS some hard work. Lots of after hours and weekends. (when else can you update a major app or system without disrupting the workforce?) But it is SO worth it.

I was recently laid off, but am actively looking at new positions, and looking at taking less pay. I have once entered the 100K realm, but am now looking in the 50K range, just because I like the work, and do not require 100K to live.

Zach, if you wanna grab a coffee or lunch and talk about it, lemme know.

    This is your kb?

I don't see what you mean. There's no special keys overlaid on the keyboard...?

I guess you didn't find anything in the BIOS? Can you take a good pic of your keyboard? This is really strange. I'm almost leaning towards hardware issue, anything change when you noticed this? Did you drop it, spill something on it, etc?

Kinda sounds like your keyboard thinks its another model of keyboard, laptops that don't have a dedicated number pad like yours use the jkl iop and 789 in place of a dedicated keypad. Things that come to mind would be checking the driver, and maybe look for one that has the dedicated keypad included.

I've seen a lot of questions from people where his same model is causing the same issue. Problem is, there are no posted solutions.

    Lovely.

I keep thinking it's something buried in the BIOS.... but why would it change, unless someone was screwing with him? lol.

Edit - earlier I said registry, and meant BIOS. Derp.

This time I do mean registry - check
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard] "InitialKeyboardIndicators" - what is that value set to? Mine is set to a huge jumble of numbers, no clue why - but it seems if you set it to '2', Windows will default to the numlock on? Perhaps try setting it to 0...?

This is very odd, and yes I'm grabbing at straws :p.
