a 64 bit OS can be a PITA to get setup with 32 bit clients. You will need to add the 32 bit drivers to the 64 bit machine. To do this, you have to connect to the printer from a 32 bit machine and add the driver from the 32 bit machine.

edit, maybe they finally got smart and changed it. used to be a PITA.

it is a machine that you use to manage print queues. The one server (pc in this case) is connected directly to the printers (either by usb or network). All of the machines in the office then point to the print server for their printers.

depends on the printers you have, If you have a lot of printing going on, the printer doesn't always have the buffer to manage it, that's where a print server come into play. It also allows you to manage printer drivers. With the print server, i can just point a machine at the print server and it gets the driver automatically. Very useful for things like login scripts.

Not sure if this is the place for it but figured I'd throw it out to you guys. If you guys were to buy a new laptop, what would you get? Here's my criteria:
    -Under $500
-For personal use (browsing, e-mail, basic office fuctions, doesn't have to be lightening fast, even the bottom of the line laptops these days are double the speed of my current one)
    -15" + screen size

I know that really limits the choices, the 2 I've found are an Acer and an HP. Thoughts/Comments/Opinions?

Under 500 bucks... yikes, if you are gonna go cheap, get something reputable with a good warranty, processors and memory are going to suck in the price range, so just get something that the manufacturer will fix if it breaks.

we got a dell for my wife from best buy for around that price too. I try to stick with a major manufacturer that will support their product. I don't know much about Acer support, but HP support isn't that bad.
