It works, but how do you control what version of driver they use? and if they use PS or PCL? I've run into so many stupid issues involving the version/type of driver it is ridiculous. I use the print server to standardize it and minimize those issues.

I'll see if I can find a Dell. Good info on the support. Most of the user reviews actually say that Acer support is great and easy to deal with. The only reason I'm considering HP is our company has them so I might be able to con our IT guys into looking at it if it breaks and I can't get ahold of HP's customer service.

Here's the processor for the HP:
    <LI style="MARGIN-TOP: 10px; FONT-WEIGHT: normal">AMD Dual-Core Processor E-300 (1.6GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)+AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6310M Discrete-Class Graphics The HP Memory
    <LI style="MARGIN-TOP: 10px; FONT-WEIGHT: normal">3GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)And the Acer:
    Intel Celeron Processor B815 (2MB L3 cache/1.60GHz)
    RAM 4 GB (2/2) DDR3

Mean anything to you guys? I know about Intel, no clue on AMD.

It's a below average processor, but you aren't going to be running super processor intensive applications, so it shouldn't matter much. As a professional I refuse to use AMD/ATI products, as a consumer, they should be just fine for you.

Whoa... I'm looking at that thing now, that's impressive! That's cheaper than I can buy the same machine through my company, with the discount.

Machine gets only one driver... Universal driver. Thats why is so awesome no more "My prints come up with weird characters" calls to service desk.
Win7 has Universal drivers out of the box so no need to load anything you just point to printer and you done. From support point of view there is nothing better. Users also like it because it enables two way communications so they can use scanners on printers and get their documents into pdf with one click of the button.
If you guys interested send me PM and I will look into somebody giving you a buzz to help set it up.
Version: Universal driver is now part of Windows update so you can have machines updating driver every time they download updates. You can force that throug WSUS box

yes, that looks like a great deal.

I have no issues with AMD. Right now they are cheaper as long as you don't want the fastest processor out there. Anything you buy right now will be light years ahead of your windows 2000 machine.

It's been a few years since I've dealt with printers ( I fucking hate them). I know the Universal drivers have come a long ways. If you can manage that many machines with direct printing, it is something i will probably look into the next time I have to deal with it.

Most of the printers are HP and Xeros all models of each. It depends on the country.

Maybe you guys can help me out here. i am not a laptop guy, so this is all foreign to me. My roommates laptop magically will not turn the screen on at all. He just turned it on and nothing. I have torn it completely apart and couldn't find a single thing. I will be honest and say that I know nothing bout monitors though... Everything else seems to be running okay as it will boot into windows cause you still hear the welcome sounds and stuff. It's just like the screen no workie. Any way for me to test it or some way to trace it down to a bad monitor? All connections were checked and no signs of corrosion or no connection, though the internals showed that they have been overheated a time or two...

Tried that. Problem is that it's set up so that you have explicitly tell it to send feed to an external. It would take forever and a day to just magically click the right things to send the video over.

Usually, there's a keyboard stroke you can do to enable an external monitor <FN><F8> for my dell.

Which version of Windows is it running? 'Windows Key + P' may work for you, that enables Presentation mode which sends the signal to the external monitor.
