My son is level II. He is learning that things don’t break on a schedule - it either all works (and they’re bored to tears) or it’s all going to hell at the same time.

Oh yeah. We had a pair of our edge routers throw a fit out of nowhere a few weeks back......it was not a good few days.

These new ISC2 CBTs are harder and better than the ones available on the work training site.

    Go figure.

30 CPEs to go. I need to stop procrastinating.

    Tomorrow.

If you're just looking for the CPEs for CPE sake, the ISC2 magazine quizzes are an easy way to knock out CPEs.

Yeah, I do those too. Just getting my mind in the right place so I can go "okay, let's read a year's worth of Information Security Magazine today!"

I now know the root cause of workplace violence.

My computer just installed a pile of updates from 0730 - 0815 because it needs manual approval to reboot (failing SSD). Since the updates finished it's been a $1,000 paperweight not even good for being an anchor.

Ready to start a killing spree using this POS as the weapon, but I'm certain it would fail at that too...

I particularly love the uninterruptible reboot in the middle of an important meeting.

I'm having to use Teams on my work cell while my PC reboots continuously. Thank God the building is empty because of COVID - I've launched into several 120+ decibel "salty" tirades.

Damn. Glad I keep my own private NAS that isn’t cloud accessible.

    Yeah.
I've got a MyCloud, all my data is there. I never set it up to be available outside our network, mostly forget it is there.

I have a $50 case that I have a pair of 4TB mirrored drives popped into. Nothing fancy, but I can't lose those pictures.

My storage is only accessible via ssh on non-standard ports with only 1 allowed user account.

I recently got a terramaster 2 bay NAS to take the mirrored HDDs from out of my desktop case and threw them in there. pain in the ass to get setup, but has been great since. no chance i was enabling cloud on it either.

    Yeah.
Got bored and Cap reminded me that I don't want to lose all my digital photos, so I built an UNRAID box today out of mostly spare parts (I did grabs some new drives) for some extra redundancy. Seems pretty slick, but likely a rabbit hole. First order of business is setting up a pihole container.

Pictures are the single most valuable digital thing I own. First level Raid 5 Synology NAS with no connection to the internet. Second level backup external hard drive. Third level, external hard drive stored off site. It's going to take a lot of things going wrong before my pictures are lost. Notice I didn't say the word cloud once. Crap like this is the reason.

I'm finally getting to fill my two vacancies (after 3 fucking years - long story, will get me a 30 day vacay), and one of the resumes that made it past the HR algorithm is 906 pages.

    Yes. 906 fucking pages.

The asshat turdgoblin did an HR system copypasta for every job posting he'd ever applied to, made it a PDF, and submitted it. It's no wonder that resume made the cert - it had multiple copies of each keyword through sheer volume!!

There is NO WAY IN HELL I'm reading that thing. In fact, I've already provided "feedback" through the system that he will never be considered.

"If you don't have the integrity or ability to write a simple, targeted resume, then I can't even remotely trust you to do the job right. While this resume did make it past the AI screening, it will never be read or considered. This is extremely disrespectful, and I would have expected better from someone claiming to have your background."

    Fuck this guy.
