bleeping computer has some of the best fixes for virus crap out there. They also have a program called combofix that typically will fix anything I can't.

Yea, like if CCNA was level 1 CCNP would be level 2 then CCIE would be level 3. just for example.

There too many damn certs... I'm working on my CCNA right now... guess I'll just have to keep re-certing after I'm done with that. Just saw that CCArchitect has a final board exam fee of 12k

Is absolutely perfect. makes me feel better when I have to go clean off FakeAV viruses off people's computers.

I gotta say though, this shit is stressful. Then again I have no support, unrealistic expectations from customers, and a general apathy to my industry that is pretty indescribable.

I have a crapload of certs i need to get this year. I'm working on my VMware vsphere 5 test right now. I need to renew my Citrix xenapp and xendesktop certs. I have to get my MCITP from MS (only so we can keep our MS partnership).

^^yup. CCNA is the basic entry level, then you have the more specific CCNA security, wireless, and voice, plus CCDA...and now you have to have those in order to move to the CCNP level certs of the same specialty.

Do you have to recertify on CCNA if you're CCNP certified or is it just a recert of CCNP?

anything that will recert the CCNP will recert the CCNAs...ie a CCIE test or other professional level exams.

Have you tried Hiren's BootCD? It is such a useful tool. Full of a bunch of nifty programs. When i burned the disc, i copied the files off the "Programs" folder and put it onto a jumpdrive set as read-only. Run it and run scans that way.

    http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

Now, when I do encounter virus issues, I usually recommend to just wipe the drive clean and reinstall windows using their CD, or like many companies do now, with the restore partition.

That's a pretty nice looking utility. I'm definitely downloading that. I've used a lot of those items individually, but this would be nice to have everything and a whole lot more.

    It's very nice.

yeah, lemme clarify a bit. When you burn the disc, put it back into your CD drive, browse the CD folder and find where the "programs" folder is. Copy it to a jumpdrive (or an SD card) where you can physically set a Read-Only parameter. Once you've copied all the programs there, make the external storage read-only so viruses cant mess with it. Use the tools on whatever machine your working on from your jumpdrive. I noticed that if i just boot straight from Hiren's Boot CD, when you do scans most of programs will scan only the "X:\" ramdrive that the CD creates, which well....won't be of much help.

Oh yes, DBAN is such a good tool.

Norton's Partition Magic is also really nice if youre using a computer with a floppy drive, the program creates boot floppies to run partitioning software from. Gparted is also really useful.

Thinking of buying a tablet... Probably a Kindle Fire, I need something that will give me my google 'suite' (gmail, calendar, etc) and that I can browse all kinds of media on... Does the Fire do all of that? Or do I need something with more balls?

don't do the fire or the nook unless you plan on rooting them and loading a real version of android. I looked into them for my dad and both the nook and fire are locked down. You will be much happier as an IT nerd with one that isn't locked down like that.

I can vouch for the nook color/tablet.

I think with both devices they become much better after you root them and remove the stock ROM. When I first bought my nook color i only rooted it and kept the B&N ROM. I got tired of my tablet and was kind of disappointed. A couple months later I loaded CyanogenMod 7 on to it. I love it so much more now. Just like a regular Android tablet you'd pick up at best buy now. CM7 can have the google suite installed on there, and another thing I love about Android is...FLASH PLAYER :D

The Nook Tablet (not color) has a 1GHz Dual Core Processor like the Kindle Fire, but the Nook Tablet has more RAM, more onboard storage, and the Kindle Fire has no expandable storage.

    Yep, exactly this ^

They become so much better without the ROMS from either B&N or Amazon.

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2407..._tablet_vs_the_competition_spec_showdown.html

Their comparison has it against the older Nook Color, and the Kindle Fire has a 1GHz Dual Core instead of the "Unspecified Dual Core", and it has 512MB RAM.
