vbscript would allow you to better recover from an error and might help you enforce drive mappings but a simple CMD script should work just fine too.

If you want a vbscript example, here's one example.

You can connect printers in cmd as well.
    net /?

I use all vbscript, and am not looking forward to migrating to power shell.

I think you'll have an easier transition to power shell than from cmd to vbscript.

Dude from netapp is in the office today, he is currently unable to figure out how to install Java and doesn't have the version he needs... His excuse is "I'm used to Macs..." not acceptable dude, we just spent my yearly salary on your equipment.

Dafuq? Go to website, download version you need. And if it's a pre-req for your software have it handy.

what company is this netapp guy from? i know he doesn't work for netapp directly. We used to be a partner, but then they were being rather dickish and we dropped our partnership.

You would think... Dude is an absolute train wreck.

From what I understand, he works directly for Net App... Extremely unimpressed. He barely knows how to use his own software.

Interesting. I didn't think they had techs. I thought they used their partners for things like that. Sounds like you need to make a complaint to the manager. not having Java is one thing, not being able to install the correct version of Java is unacceptable.

What's he installing Java on? Setting a filer up or adding additional software for the filer or workstation you are gonna use to manage it is a piece of cake.

Call your sales dude and talk to him.

They have resellers that often rep several different products. Some better than others. If you're a tier 1 customer, then you get help from them directly.

From a support perspective, you almost always deal with them-I don't know many resellers I'd want to get support from (for anything).

Ha, what is he installing Java on, this is the best part.... Just a random workstation, nothing fancy, just a windows 7 box. He did finally figure it out.

We don't. We outsource rack-n-stack and break-fix to partners. We used to do that, but not for at least 4 years. We do have PS guys, but they are typically only involved with PS engagements and this doesn't sound like that.

Bottom line they are representing us (NetApp) and that shouldn't happen. You can PM me with company and I can find out the rep on your account to let him know what's going on. Sorry for the headache. That should not have happened.

Always sad to have to educate the partner on how to do their job. Mostly because those partners often support other products which they are more familiar with. Less true with the mundane stuff (like swapping disks) and more true with more 'esoteric' stuff like breaking mirrors and what not.

I'm glad that I personally didn't need to work with those partners except on rare occasions when a company we acquired already had that arrangement.

Do any of y'all run Linux (Ubuntu) ?
I'm trying to download it and get it to dual boot with XP (already loaded), I got WUBI (windows installer for Ubuntu) and the ISO for Ubuntu, let wubi download and install the OS, and just before it finishes I get a error from wubi ( error code 2, I think, I dont have access to it right now) I read online how to fix it (move both wubi and the ISO file to the same folder).
My question is, how do I create a new folder? I'm used to my Mac and haven't fooled around with windows in a few years.
