    You're welcome.

Also, have you considered running Ubuntu in VM? I run it on my Mac using virtual box (sun/oracle freeware).

i'm just putting linux on a old desktop right now, but if i like it i might run a virtual linux program.

the desktop doesnt like to burn CD's, the original burner software has disappeared, and i downloaded 2 other online but they require other software that the PC wont run.
my question, if i burn the CD on my mac, will it work with windows? i dont really see why not.

Thanks again Ian, I found out that lubuntu ( a version of ubuntu) would be better for a older PC so i'm currently DLing that (13 hours left), so i should know tomorrow if it works.

    You on dial-up or something?

Also, Ubuntu, at least the standard releases, are capable of running straight from the CD (Live CD). You can run it on any PC capable of booting from CD. You can basically try it out before actually installing it.

almost, my grandparents pay for the step above dial-up, so the average DL speed is 5.4 kb/s, and the time is up to 1 day 5 hours.
i would do it when we get home, but i'm impatient, and getting a ethernet cable into my room would be a pain.,

i think i have the option, from the screenshots it looks like i will.
how would i check to see if i'm able to boot from CD? the desktop is a compaq presario sr1124nx
i switched the BIO settings to read the disk drive first, then the HDD.
but it said disc boot failure.

Once you burn the disc, reboot the PC and it should boot from the disc in the drive.

Not a lot of places to hide the wiring. Most of it is the power supply, wish it was modular. But usually once I get it nice and neat, I end up changing something and messing it up anyways.

just zip tie some wires into bundles and try to keep them out of the way of the main airflow design of the case you dont need space to do good cable management

I can't remember anything that was that big and still on floppies. What does the app run on (OS) that it can't use a DVD?

I seem to remember OS/2 came on a huge number of floppies (25). It could be up to 39 if you ordered bonus pack. You could buy it in 5.25" format or 3.5". Most of them we're just before CD-ROMs became mainstream. I remember being awed at my room mates 2x CDROM (used cd caddies). I also remember downloading Redhat linux on my 2400b modem. It took a month.

MS Office 4.3 had about 40 floppies.
