Anyone here code with Python? Looking for a good place to start with that. I'm used to working with html, some xml, some javascript, and shell scripting.

Going to be taking the CompTIA A+ Certification test, (Two parts, but to my understanding, recently they moved apart from a hands on part, and made it entirely computerized (Questions))
I'll be taking it in two weeks or so.. Any tips? Anything to have down? I plan on picking up a few books from the local library. I took the class from Cisco.

Google around. There are a couple of sites with interactive online tutorials.

Hands on part? I took it almost ten years ago and it was fully computerized then. From what I remember if you know your way around computers you should be fine. I only studied a little and basically went off my experience doing tech support for summer jobs and growing up with computers.

Got one that stumped me so far. Firefox will not play sound, Chrome and IE are fine. Also, this happens on website video's from CNN, Youtube, etc. What I have done:

    1. Checked the volume and yes, it's not muted.
    2. Mixer under volume is fine.
    3. Cleared cache.
    4. Updated all addins.
    5. Kicked a trash can.
    6. Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox.

    What am I missing here?

    Thanks!

    Yeah.
Might want to try and completely uninstall Flash and re-install an older version. I found that on the Google -- ran into this a few years ago and couldn't remember what we did to fix it.

Check the privacy settings and be sure the site(s) aren't blocked. Check for ad blocking software. Sometimes, this causes more problems than it solves (ie; works but requires care and feeding).

Be sure javascript is enabled-at least check.

    Check for conflicting plugins.

Check to make sure the plugins folder is available and not restricted by av software.

Ask the user what their business justification for audio is :D

She has a PHD and is an officer, I just say "Yes ma'am".

The storm is over and fixed. Looks like it was caused by a plugin.

Thanks for all the help guys!

You have it all wrong. You're I.T.! that means no one can honestly tell you how to do your job except for other IT people. I have access, and control, even though I'm the youngest and get paid very little. It's humbling, really.

Nothing like installing VB6 on a windows 7 x64 machine to try and trouble shoot an app. It's only been 15 years since the last release.

Try using a current Win7/64b all with today's hardware.....printing to a shared 16bit thermal label maker over the LAN to an XP-preSP1 box that's 100% mission critical so don't you DARE touch it!

    *sigh

    *weeps softly

In the case in question, we couldn't. The 'upgrade' had a 6-figure price tag and a 4 week lead-up with UPS before the could even start, and then it was at least a full weekend of downtime to deploy it.

One of many reasons I don't have that job any more :)

The funny part is, if they had upgraded along the way, they probably would have paid the same $$$ but it would have been spread out over 20 years, not 1 month.

That would have required planning, forward thinking, competent IT leadership, techs worth a shit, and just general good business skills.

Having worked there about 7 months, I can tell you with certainty that very little of that was present when I was there, and certainly wasn't any time recently before I started.
