Have you gave the Android x86 project a go? I tried it a while back and gave up. When I have more time i'll try it again.

Supposedly Android 4.0 is supposed to reduce the fragmentation between all the phones and other Android devices. I think I've read about some ultrabooks that dual boot Android and some version of Windows 7

Well after working 7 years in a completely unrelated field, an Associates in Computer Information Systems, and 3/4 of a Bachelors in Information Networking and Telecommunications, I FINALLY start my career in IT next week!

I've worked on tons of computers for friends and family. I was also a Field Service Tech that went around the area and replaced hardware in Dell computers a few years ago. But I feel that this is my first real gig in the IT field.

I'll be an IT Technician for the school district in town. Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

    ^^ this

i've been lucky and had people to ask questions of when i first started. Also, you cannot know everything, but always know how to find the answer. Google is generally a great place to start. If it is a problem with windows, i will guarantee that you are not the first person to have the problem.

Welcome fatty ac1d! Congrats on your new IT job! Let us know how you like it, I was thinking of applying for an IT job my self on campus over the summer. I've heard all they really do is just install new hardware, update software and drivers. Easy stuff...or so I hope.

    And that last comment,

This site is pretty cool if you want some ideas for building a custom PC using other objects as the computer box (e.g. Cigar Box or ammo can). The mini boards make good car computers because they're so small.

    http://www.mini-itx.com/

One that i thought was funny that isn't on there anymore was the disco ball pc. The guy mounted one of the mini-itx boards behind monitor and hooked up an empty see-through case that only had a disco ball inside.

2GB isn't bad. I got 2 GB installed in my workstation and it runs fine. Right now I'm using just over a gig with FF, outlook, and a 5250 green screen session to my iSeries. I've never had any issues with low memory. Granted I won't be running any VM's on here anytime soon lol.

    Yeah.
Yes, Windows 7 is much smarter than Vista or XP about memory usage. I have 1GB in an EeePC netbook with and Atom processor and it runs Win 7 just fine -- it tones down all the Aero eye candy to make up for the weaknesses. I just keep it on the table in front of the TV for the occasional research that hits me, checking fantasy football scores, trolling TW, etc.

I've had windows 7 run way better on any machine than XP did, 12 year old laptop of mine ran win 7 like a dream, and XP was sluggish.

MS seems to go back and forth with Windows.

Win 95: new, needed bugs worked out
Win 98: Got better with SE
    Win ME: dog shit
    Win XP: good
    Win Vista: dog shit
    Win 7: good

We'll see what the next version of Windows brings haha

Maybe it was his machine then. It locked up frequently with only 2GB on and a fresh install. I just went and installed windows xp again.

Was it Home Premium? I've never used any of the Home versions as I have Pro installed at work. Maybe there's a difference in how the versions use memory?

nope, the different version just have different features locked/unlocked. The kernel is the same in all of them.
