0w-20 is required because the Cam Phasers (VVTI-W) run off oil pressure. In order to prevent premature wear, you should run the correct viscosity in this engine. 0W-20 isn’t just for maximizing fuel economy.

Is the filter body hanging down that much or does it just look like it is much lower? How much lower is it?

This is 100% correct. If you start running 5w30 the cam phasers will probably not work correctly!!!!

LOL! I don't even trust a dealership to do a proper oil change. Correct viscosity or levels, improper torque settings, cross threading nuts, even forgetting (ask me how I know) to replace the filler cap.
And as far as those quick, budget, oil change places go, "take the "e" out of elephant and the "f" out of way!
I'll do my own and know that it was done correctly.

Well that's the kicker isn't it? I changed mine at 5000 miles, then the dealer did it at 10,000, and I did it again at 5000 (I don't put many miles on mine), and I almost could not get it off it was tightened so much (Larry Miller in Albuquerque). The guys that change the oil at dealers are often not the brightest bulbs in the box.

So the spin on filter will keep the dealer from over tightening? Yeah right..

I don't know why some people think they can outsmart the engineers that designed their engine. Modern engines have extremely complex internals that rely on the proper weight of oil to work properly and last the longest. As jimmydean said this can cause problems especially with your VVT. If the engineers tell you to put a certain weight oil in your engine then DO IT. They decided on that weight for a reason.

But uncle Jimmy says we’re a “Quaker State family”, and only run 10W30 because that was good enough for pappy’s Buick before the accident and all.
