I have my spin on located up in the engine compartment. Easy to reach, no tools, and not a drop spilled. Review my previous posts where there is more detail and pictures.

I have an aftermarket plate that include the access cover for the filter (4x Allen bolts) and a hole to access the drain plug.

Keep all of the old parts, and if your engine blows up, just remove the Baxter adapter and re-install the factory unit and play stupid.

Do you happen to remember the lengths of hose you used? I just ordered everything for the remote setup for my '23 and that would be very helpful info. I plan on having the made at a hydraulic shop.

    Thanks

    Forgot I made this comment.

I did end up finding a sale at the last minute. Northridge 4x4 was selling them at a small discount (10% off), FYI.

So, some may want to keep an eye out for sales next year

Just found this old thread. I saw some part numbers for filters but what applications are they for ? It would be nice to order filters by vehicle application or part number.

I submitted those filter numberes. There’s no need to identify different filter numbers by model because filters are based on thread pitch, canister diameter, canister height, and bypass pressure.

The filter numbers I provided support the bypass pressure required by our Tacomas’s while maximizing the filter height to maximize filtration so long as your installed location supports it.

Wait, how did that oil filter piece mount there? You removed the original piece where filter sits? That Toyota filter is same I used for my 03 4runner

Just curious, do you have to run / add more oil due to the length of the hoses to filter back into the engine?

Have you found any install videos for this? I allows wondered about this option just like how Subaru does it from the factory.

I had a Baxter. I sold it and have kept the factory filter setup with the Toyota alloy filter canister.

Call me crazy, but after working on crap for 40+ years, this factory setup is better than the spin on. I’m old school, I WANTED to like this spin on adapter. It just creates more issues than it solves.

    More mess.
    More expensive filter cost.
    Expensive cost of the kit.
    More chance for a leak.

So there is that as well……..is it really worth it?

Also a point to note. Toyota said they would NOT warranty any oil related engine failure with this filter adapter installed.

I have been very intrigued by this too. I have been wrenching on stuff for 30 years and can identify the difference between a PH8A and FL1A with my hands in the dark. I really like the idea of spin ons. If I designed a new engine I would probably choose a spin on too. But-is this kit worth it for all of the issues above?

Years ago I installed a 'pre-luber' I bought from Summit which I plumbed from an oil filter adapter to the engine compartment. Sure it worked and pressurized the oiling system prior to starting, but I eventually removed it. I thought about how dumb I would feel if I sprung a leak and destroyed the engine while trying to save it with this device. I was only 17 and the marketing hype really got to me. Then again so did the big silver can of slick 50.

Also, I believe you but curious what your source is for Toyota not warrantying oil related engine failure with the adapter installed?

Oh, I hadn’t thought about Slick 50 in years. I once did an auto mechanics class presentation on it…..that must have been late 84 or early 85

Anyrate….. the source of my info was my dealer’s service manager. Different dealerships may have a differing opinion. But this SM stated this was typical Toyota philosophy. Kinda like an axle shaft not being warrantied following a suspension lift install.
