I am embracing the new Tacoma. At first I was a little put off because I thought the new design was not dramatically different from the gen 2. After thinking about it though, Toyota played it safe because the Tacoma is already a hugely successful truck. Toyota trucks have always evolved conservatively.
The fact that the cab looks very similar is a direct result of Toyota approaching customers and finding out that people really liked the look of the gen 2 Tacoma and most did not want a dramatic departure from that.
Toyota could have made the doors/cab look totally different with the same bones they are using now, but chose to only slightly modify the door skins because most people really liked them as is. And yes, the door skins are different than the gen 2. Just not dramatically different.
We have only seen the new Tacomas in two configurations and two colors. As soon as more pics are released of the Tacoma in different colors and other configurations (I am excited to see the DCLB myself), I am sure more people will come around and really see it is quite a handsome truck that looks very modern.
I am also sure actually seeing one in the flesh will bring totally different sentiments than just seeing one on our computer screens. This has always been the case for me.
Anyway, I really hope to see some new photos soon of the new Tacoma. I think a DCLB in pirate mica would look really good.

I am completely with you on all of this (except for the pirate mica part). People need to chill. Here is an idea, if you don't like it, don't buy one, simple as that!!

Nonsense. I have a DCLB TRD Sport in Pyrite Mica and it is a thing of beauty.

This is what this is, and what this shall be. So has been written.
After much solitary contemplation, I too, have accepted the blessings generously placed before me.
Behold! All hail! And all bow down to your new generation sky silver Idol!
May you all have peace and serenity, on your daily drive in the new age of Tacoma.
Brothers and sisters can I get a amen....

That's a tight-looking whip. Hope this color is offered on the gen 3. Still haven't seen a gen 3 DCLB. Wish someone would Photoshop one or something.

Wow, our trucks sure are similar. I think we have the same tonneau and vent visors:
