    I think your missing the point. It was never about the strenght of the steel it self. It's .120 wall and 3/16 plate, that shit is thin. With the force of your truck hitting some thing your going to fuck it up period. Yes your right the welds it self will out hold the thickness of the steel if the welds are good. The welds can also crack but I usually don't see a weld crack unless it's been exposed for some time. Plus he bent the tube messing with the integrity of the strenght of the tube. But that wasnt the point. It was toward the design of the bumper on how to strethen the design of the bumper. The thought was running the tube through the steel and using it as a gusset in the bumper giving it more strength. At least thats what I pictured it in my head. Unless I misunderstood.

    That's exactly what I was getting at. The tube inside the plate acting as a gusset and secondary support.

    And sincentives when did Jack build a bumper in 3/16. I thought it was 1/2" or thicker! :D
