I guess it also all depends on what your gonna be running off the trailer. Water pump, some lights, recharge some stuff..water heater??(id guess you'd do propane for that though as well as stove) not sure what else. So im sure charging won't be a huge issue but again, will depend on what your running.

Also, solar panels would be sweet! Im not a huge fan of generators as to me anyways it ruins the nice campfire time with the noise. But hey, thats a good deal you got and id bring one just in case. Can't hurt.

    I shall remember this..:spy:

Get the right generator and you'll hardly know it's running.

    This part is for Colin:

The solar setup is interesting. I was looking at one recently (Goal Zero) and the charge time using solar panels was something like 30 hours which, if you're depending on solar alone, means you're always running at a deficit. I realize the panels that you're talking about are probably larger but could you really have a practical setup that would keep the batteries topped off after a night of heavy use?

Can you PM me the link to that setup? i'm curious what it's made up of and what the numbers look like.

there are definitely systems that can be mounted within the means of a trailer that can cut that charge time in half. you won't find them as a kit though, as compact, yet high output solar systems aren't in very high demand. they are also pricey per unit energy compared to the standard trickle systems you see prepackaged as battery maintainers, or the much larger scale home use systems.

My needs are not trailer related-more to keep camera batteries charged. Also, I'm assuming the charge times are from a (mostly) depleted state.

Hey colin, talking bout diy solar setups, and specifics, you might be getting a pm with a few more questions. Also, have you looked at the constant current/constant voltage drivers from prodctodc.com? I have been using drivers from them for led projects and I was wondering if any one/ you had used them for solar projects?

Ian, that's a cool little kit. not a ton of power, but the fact that it comes all set up and ready to go makes a world of difference in.

Ben, shoot me a PM anytime. I can't say I have any experience with those units. everything i've done has been with higher currents, but i have used dc to dc voltage regulators. these were just the size of a shoebox. those are awesome little units though. i'm sure i'll be finding a need for them now that i know about them lol

here's the scale i'm more used too. 4g wire in this setup

It is a nice unit for what it is used for. However, if it can do 5 laptop charges and a couple other things before need an charge itself, solar just doesn't seem to be 'reliable' unless you're staying someplace for a while.

Well I've got a shore plug connected to a 2 bank 10 amp charger too! Just add extension cord. It'll get charged one way or another.

The panels that I'm running on the roof of the truck are holding up great so far and i torture the truck off pavement.

If you get hurricane rated panels, they're damn near bulletproof.

Ran out of shielding gas....so on to other things.

Just look at that bump travel!
Bilstein or Fox shocks in short order. Just gotta get final numbers once I get the bump stops mounted.

I actually have the 45W set from Harbor Freight. So it is 3 panels at 15W mounted on the top. Here is a decent pic...

Quick question about the gate-what was the reasoning behind the swing out vs. drop down? Also, why not square off the side doors? Let you get stuff in there a bit easier I'd think.

Definitely starting to look like a trailer tho!
