Child's play compared to what I have in store.

Was out of town for the last week so no real progress. Got a tiny bit done on the main box today. Chop saw blade is too short to cut a 45* so I was stymied by that and the lack of open hardware stores on labor day. I did get the trailer back on its own weight again though and completely finished the last bit of trailer wiring.

    I'm in for some cookies........

I think the theme of Moab 2014 will be off road camping trailers and RTT's....

    Nice!

Just out of curiousity..is it the same wheel base length from the rear axle to its axle as your trucks wheel base?

I used a straight edge and it looks like the rear axle to trailer axle is a bit longer.

You could have pretty much answered that one by yourself. ;)
Xtra cab 1st gen is wheelbase is 122". I've already mentioned OAL of the trailer without the hitch is 126".
Rear axle to trailer axle is more than the wheelbase. Not sure by how much, but probably a foot

    Ha! So it does.

Those are my truck spares :anonymous:

Not necessarily. Sounds like you're spending too much time reading opinionated posts on Expedition Portal. ;)

Just like camber is not the only thing to affect handling, a trailer "tracking" the same as the truck is not as simple as length between axles. A similar wheelbase is a good starting point to help the trailer tag behind the truck. One of other factors is the actual trailer axle width. You can do a longer wheelbase spread and still have the trailer follow behind the truck in a nearly identical path by a slightly narrower axle width.

I'm building my trailer to suite my needs. There's no hard rule that says you must build it with a certain track width or length or cargo box size. I wanted a 4'x6' box...which is what I built. I added an additional 8.5" to the main frame to support my water tank. Then I tapered the A frame such that it mimics the exact same angle for the tongue box I wanted to use. The axle is split exactly 60/40 of the main frame with the springs at loaded right height. The rest of the tongue length was determined based on what I needed to clear my bumper/body panels if I jackknifed the thing.

Meaning...end result is 126 OAL, and a 1" narrower axle than the rear of my truck. WMS up front on my truck is 67", rear axle is 66", trailer is 65"
After the first test drive and doing a full lock turn...I'm not worried one bit.

It will still track in almost the exact same path is it is. No biggie. Looking good Jason. Anxious to see the bells and whistles come together.
