im interested to know the valving on your rears when you get them. Nobody really seems to know what to do with the light rear ends on these and my Fox's are rougher than my ex after a long night. I only want to do the shock swap once without issue.

Great progress in a short amount of time!

Maybe I missed it in your other threads, you selling the truck?

Curious what your thoughts are on your 4runner for a full time platform. With my truck theft I am considering switching over to a V8 4Runner. You are doing many of the things I would be doing, including the rear 12" kings!

Trying to be EAF like the millennials. Sure as hell could have used it this weekend though.

I haven't figured it out completely. In theory, linked suspension is the same thing as a-arm suspension, so I have a rough idea of what I'm going to start with. But won't know till I drive it.
And unless you copy me exactly (shock length, shock diameter, shock upper and lower mounting, bypass tube configuration, unsprung weight, sprung weight, spring length, spring rate, link length, link position, etc.), the valving will only be close if at all. I'm pretty confident I'm going to have to pull the bypasses a couple times to get it right.

Weird that everyone keeps asking that question. I bought the 4runner brand new in late 2006. It's not really new, just building it up to serve our family requirements. I'm not selling the taco or the tundra. We're a Toyota family, got the whole trifecta. I'm keeping the taco for solo trips, or "date" trips with the wife. If the boys are going, we're taking the hoe-runner.

I like it! The welding leaves a lot to be desired in terms of aesthetics. But it went together pretty quickly and good instructions. I like the clamping design it has around the door. Holds my weight and the wife's combined just fine with no wiggles or dents. It's juuuuuuust enough weight where the rear door shocks still lift the tailgate, but doesn't go up all the way. That could also be chalked up to nearly 10 year old air shocks as well. All in all, so far, so good.

At this point, the only way I would buy a third gen would be if I won the lotto, just so I could light the fucker on fire and post a video of it to make the 3rd genlings cry (after I ripped out the 8.75 rear end and threw it under the 4runner).

I was gonna say, let me have the rear end first, but nevermind.

Here is what I am running on mine, going to make a few tweaks this winter when I have some time to play them a bit more, but providing a good all around performance for now.

Nice! Close to what I was going to start with.
BTW, in case you didn't know, bypasses don't have free bleed holes in the piston like smooth bodies/coilovers. Good choice plugging 1 free bleed for the weight you have.

No. You would have a double bleed with bypasses and freebleeds in the piston.

how are the 285/70/17 duratracs. ive got 5100s @ max also with fj cruiser springs. not sure if thats the same amount of lift yours has. i dont have aftermarket uca's but im running 265/70/17 duratracs with no problems right now, but i was interested in going up a size the next time i get tires.

Great tires, but any 285 suuuuuuuuucks with the stock 3.73s.
I'm very happy with the 4.56 gears and 285s.

so fit wise they were fine with the 5100 lift? it was more of a power issue for you?

The other think to keep in mind is your resi hose come off the top of the shock. Bypass resi's come off the bottom. When they come off the bottom, all the fluid displaced by the shaft during compression has to go through the shock valving (or bypass tubes). When the hose comes off the top, as the shaft displaces fluid it goes path of least resistance (which is normally through the resi hose). So to compensate you have to run more valving.

Purely a power issue. Driving up a 9% grade with my expo trailer behind me sucked ass.
285's are easy to fit. On the old wheels (stock 1st gen tundra wheels) with 5" backspacing I barely had to nip the front bumper, remove the mudflaps, and cut some of the fender splash apron. 5 minutes of work.
With the new wheels with 4.3" backspacing, I had to cut a lot more plastic and had to cut the cab mount (I'll weld in CMC plates as soon as I pick them them from @RelentlessFab). But it drives A LOT better with the wheels pushed out. Even my wife noticed and she's normally pretty inattentive to those kinds of things.

thanks for the insight. im about to get a new set of duratracs and im deciding if i want to go up a size to what you have. i have the stock 4runner wheels on, im not sure what the backspacing is on those and i dont know if i trust myself cutting anything. i might just stick with the size ive got since i havent had any issues.

I actually love my ladder, but not because its a ladder, more because I added a bicycle fork mount too it so I don't have to throw my bikes in the back or on the roof.

You have the V6 or 8? I can't say I'm happy with the 3.73s and 305/65/17s but I wouldn't say they suck for me with the V8
